extra storage space at rear

someone mentioned a few days ago, I think, about making some storage at the rear where the muffler is on one side and the opposite side open bay. I made a simple aluminum cabinet for one that holds my small propane (no fuel in it)barb-b-que and a pile of satellite cables etc and the other side where the fuel filter access is a wooden one that actually sits on the frame (chassis) at the back and above the battery holder on another 2x4 support. I have about 2" clearance above battery and the box is held in place by 2 screws at the top/front that can come out in seconds if need be. At the back of the box I shaped it to fit around the filter and use a heavy gauge plastic shield that keeps road dirt out but I can put my hand behind to drain water from the filter if needed.  A bit crude but it holds all my polishes, spray cans greases etc etc. The outside of the box I sprayed with an undercoat Bitumin to keep water out. Here are a few pictures.

Very nice!  I've been thinking about the unused space on the muffler side, and your example may just jar me into action :)).  How did you suspend the aluminum box?  On our coach, the fiberglass on that side isn't very well braced since it doesn't carry any weight, and I thought I'd have to add soem bracing to support a compartment.  I do like being able to crawl in through that door to get to the engine on that side, so I would probably make the box easily removable.

This is a really good idea.  For a full-timer the extra storage space would be great. How did you attach the aluminum box.  Is it water tight?
