Outside Temperature Sensor

Our U-270 isn't equipped with a factory outside thermometer.  So for many years we've used an aftermarket indoor & outdoor thermometer, however we haven't found a completely satisfactory location for the outdoor sensor.  Ideally, the sensor should be located in a dry location out of direct sunlight and in an area unaffected by road temperatures, yet accessible for battery changes.  I'd appreciate your ideas and experiences.

Don, Not claiming to be the best location, but on my 01 320, the sensor is mounted in front passenger side behind headlight.  It seems to work fine however running the generator will raise the temp reading.  As long as you keep that in mind, all is grand.
Dont know of a better location.
Cheers

Thanks Dave,

That sounds like a better location than the locations I've tried.  I currently have the sensor located in the step compartment which seems to work okay when parked, but less so when the step is closed for travel.  The issue of generator heat is also a factor there like you said it is behind the headlight.

Don, I have mine mounted on top of the generator radiator in the first basement compartment on the driver's side. Like Dave's, it is OK till I turn on the generator, then artificially high readings will result. This is close to the base station which is on the slide wall behind the driver's seat.

I have yet to find a good spot.  Our sensor is really not meant for outside so I put it in a ziplock bag and placed it in the propane locker which is vented.  I usually reads a bit high, but it protected from the elements.  We have a temperature sensor on our Javelina monitor and it is located near the head light on the passenger side.

I mounted mine on a horizontal "I" beam near the front on the passenger side.  It doesn't seem to be bothered by the generator.  I don't know how accurate it is in this location.
