Air pressure problem

Yesterday, while traveling on the interstate, the low pressure light and alarm came on and I noticed the pressure had dropped to 70 pounds.  After several minutes the pressure went back to 110 pounds.  This happened several more times as I traveled.  Initially, I thought it might be an air leak and I stopped and could not find a problem.  The pressure stayed constant over the 10 minute stop.  Once I was able to observe the pressure move from 70 to 110 pounds and it only took a couple of seconds.  Would a faulty governor cause such a problem?  Any suggestion on what  the problem might be will be appreciated.

AS a general rule, the air governor maintains about 100 to 120 psi, when they start to go bad, they can do different things.
Not turning on at the 100 setting or not stopping at the 120 psi setting.
If they get gummy, sticky, they can do as you described.
Since they are cheap, $15.00 to about $30.00 for a Bendix factory rebuilt, I would start by installing a new one, then go from there.

Yes, could be a sticking governor or could be an air dryer purge valve that is occasionally sticking open.

When was the last time the air dryer was serviced?

I did a rebuild on the dryer 6 months ago.
