Hole in housing between cummins 8.3 and allison transmission?

Hello all-new to me 92 foretravel ORED, first time foretravel owner(have always dreamed), got rid of SOB.  I know this probably sounds stupid, but bear with me, newly converted from 454 to cummins pusher!  As I was examining under the drivetrain, there is a hole in the bellhousing? between the motor and transmission.  It appears to be a large drain hole without a plug?!  The fluid levels are fine and she runs great!  Is this supposed to be plugged and/or hold fluid?  Please help, and please excuse the ignorance!

Thanks,
Doug

I'm guessing a inspection hole, at least if it was between the engine and a manual transmission, it would be a inspection hole.

Put a plug in the hole to keep dirt out of the housing.  Remove the plug at each oil change to check for rear main seal leakage.

Doug,

Welcome to ForeForums.  There is no need to worry about asking a question of any sort.  You won't get flamed here.  You will only get good answers as you can see.  Congratulations on becoming a Foretravel owner.

You have me curious. You said your coach was converted from a 454 GM gas to a Cummins 5.9? Is it front engine or a pusher? Were you involved in the conversion and if so what is the approximate cost of the changeover?

Good morning Doug,

Not a Ford 460? You will love the 5.9. Probably the best engine that will get you down the road at a good speed and use less fuel than anyone else. Not a bad thing today. Should last forever with regular oil changes. Lots of easy ways to make a 5.9 fly if not fast enough for you. How do you like the rear end ratio? RPM @ 60?

Hole is probably inspection port like noted above. Lots of vehicles with them.

Sorry for the confusion.  The SOB rig i just got rid of was a 454.  My new-to-me foretravel is a grandvilla, 8.3 cummins, 250 h.p. with an allison tranny.  This was not a conversion.  I was just stating that I'm not use to the diesel set-up yet, as my old motorhome was a 454.
