Keeping lug nuts tightened on transfer switch

Over on the Escapees Forum there is a topic dealing with the possibility of loose lug nuts on the tranfer switch being a potential fire hazard.

Jack Meyer, who is a respected and technically oriented guy said this:

Mike I'm glad your rig did not burn...that would be a tragedy for that very unique MH.

I've personally evaluated at least 15 "singed" pieces of equipment.....only one was a loadcenter or subpanel. The rest were transfer switches or inverters. ALL of the ones that I looked at excepts one were due to loose lugs. Checking lugs needs to be part of your routine maintenance.

Would any one here on the ForeForum be willing to describe how to do this safely?

YUP, same for the 120 VAC breaker box-- part of my annual check-up.  This part only takes 10 minutes.  Make sure shore power, generator and inverter are OFF!
