Fuel Tank Gauge - Revisited

I've been meaning to perform an adjustment to the fuel gauge unit at the tank forever, but just are chicken to mess with it.

So, now the tank has approx. 70 to 80 gals. of fuel and the gauge reads 9/10 (close 'nuff but not at the "F" mark).  It should read approx. 5/10 or slightly over that.

How do I get the dash gauge to read that amount?

Thank you, thank you, thank you...

Assuming this is a Centroid fuel sender unit, there are two very small screws on the sender unit on the fuel tank.

One is sealed and should not be touched.  The other is the "full" adjustment.  With a full tank, make VERY small adjustments while your helper reads the gauge. The goal is for a full tank to read at or just over full.  It may take you a couple of tries to get it right.  Again best advice use VERY small turns of the screwdriver.

Brett,
Thanks, I was afraid that the tank had to be full, then make the adjustment accordingly.  I just wanted to be able to skip the dreaded visit to the "fuel pump".  And, BTW, I have the OEM Centroid.

I related my experience calibrating the gauge at Fuel Guage. I have been pleased with the results. The thread includes the experiences of some other folk as well.

Brett's recommendations are always excellent and well founded.
