PT 8KW Generator Vibration Isolators

Jerry (Whiteaker),
I saw in another thread that you changed your genset mounts.  Can you share how difficult a job that was. And, where you bought the isolators?

Hi Guys,

While doing the insulation I also installed new vibration isolators (mounts.)  I replaced the four for the generator and the two for the radiator.  The generator mounts were about $25 each, while the ones for the radiator we less.  PowerTech Generators  (352) 365-2777.  Replacing just the mounts should not be too big of a problem.  The only difficulty might be in lifting the generator so as to enable the old mount to be removed and the new one installed.  Since the bolt (gold one in 2nd picture) is inserted from the bottom of the mount, you'll have to lift the generator high enough to clear the top of the threads.  Even with the bolt resting on the tray, you'll need to lift the generator a bit.  The right side of the generator (left if you're facing the front of the coach) will be more difficult then the left.  The rears will be more difficult then the fronts.  If you want, give me a call to discuss the techniques Jen and I used.

Thanks for the offer.  I'll take you up on it.  Right now we're ready to take off for a few days of camping/golfing (try the golf anyway...first time since the wrist repair last year).  It's on the to-do list, but not urgent, there's just too much movement (amplitude) to the unit when shutting down/startin-up...donno if this is normal.

I meant just the 4 generator radiator mounts.  I bought them at Grainger.  I haven't changed the main mounts for the engine.

I have a lot of vibration in the floor of the motorhome whenever I run my 10kw genie. Its wierd, the generator is louder inside the coach than outside. I took it to MOT and after two hours they could not find where the vibration was coming from. When you shake the genie by hand, you feel full freedom of movement. You do not feel any metal to metal or contact with the motorhome chassis. The only thing MOT suggested was new motor mounts but since the are not bottomed out I don't understand how the can need replacing. Are they possibly too soft and therefore allowing too much movement of the generator? Any ideas will be appreciated.

  Probably completely different on yours but mine had a vibration too. I discovered what it was when I reinstalled the generator after insulating the compartment. Turns out, even with the gen adjusted as far outboard as possible, it would still contact the 110v electrical box which is attached directly to an aluminum wall. I ended up putting some weatherstrip pieces on the elect box cover and that fixed it for now. I should have moved it but has already insulated around it. Poor design.

And, in my case a couple years back I had to make a new brace for the air filter housing as the vibration finally fatigued the original brace and broke off.  I also added  a rubber damper to the electrical box housing so the filter housing would not keep hitting the electrical housing when shuting down.

If the genie were hitting any part of the coach body when running, wouldn't you think you could feel it hitting when violently shaking it. I can move it quite a bit by shaking it, far more movement than it has while running.
