Wheel Rim Type

Anyone know when Foretravel changed from the stud pilot wheels to the hub pilot wheels ?
Know the 89 U300 used the stud pilot and my 01 has the hub pilot, but wonder what year they changed.

Dave, My 95 U280 has the BUDD  type which is what I think you are referring to STUD Pilot.
These have a NUT on the outside wheel in the rear and a stud on the inner that uses a special type wrench to loosen the inside.  Fronts are simply a nut that goes over stud.  The nuts have a taper on them and it is VERY important  that the wheel is centered up on the stud as you tighten them.  TMI ?

Gary, yes, correct, you have the stud pilot type as I had on the old MCI hot rod conversion. Personally, I liked that style and do not know why they changed,  The main advantage to the newer hub pilot style is you never have the inner nut on rear, come loose when your removing the outer nut,  :o  other wise I liked the old style.

Than, looks like between 96 & 98 production year runs.  It is nor a critical issue, I have no problem with either trypes, just trying to get a handle on some useless info. Thanks.  Now maybe more folks have a clue to the difference  :)

Not useless info when one has wheels that are no longer in production (which some of us do) and one would like to have a couple spares for that unseen emergency when a wheel cracks or breaks.  It happens.
