Vertical Awning Mount

So what is the purpose of this vertical awning slider mount? I see that you could slide the lower strut up to the top position but why woud you in that the lower position seems just right and allows a full range of motion for the awning? Thanks.

Jon, as tall as you are, I can't believe that you have not appreciated the benefit of the increased height!  That little bar means the strut would smack you in the middle of your forehead, instead of the bridge of your nose and mangle your spectacles.  Of course, the very best help is the bright, orange "noodle" from Walmart ... cut to fit on the arm of the awning.  Jeff has smacked his head so hard he saw stars!  AND ... he would do it again an hour later!!

We utilize the UP position when we are in the desert and subject to gusty winds.
If we raise the bar to the UP position and then furl the awning back to its shortest length, we find that momentary gusts are less likely to affect the awning and we can leave it out to shade the awning side of the motorhome.  We do not have window shades and are constantly on the search for some used ones.

John, they had the sliders installed as much for me as for Jeff. I had them on my U225 and was used to the higher bar position so they were very dangerous when I was over at Jeff and Carol's coach. What great friends we have.

I have only used the big awning a few times. My recollection is that lifting the front support up the slide provides a bit of clearance so that the door of the front entry coach won't damage the awning. It will also provide a bit of warp in the canvas to provide better drainage in case of rain.

Thanks to all. I thought I was the only one dim enough to hit that damn thing more than once! Good thing I'm hard headed. Anyhow, up they went today and what a difference! I slide right under that baby. Still have the flags and noodles though!
