Security safe - Defiant Change Battery

I decided to replace the 9 volt battery in the safe. I think there was something about that posted here awhile back. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be so I wrote up my experience; see attached.
I also found I couldn't open the safe; apparently because of a weak battery.
