New Headliner

I have to replace the headliner in my 95 U320.

I was thinking of options that might be better than the factory fabric, at least in the bathroom and kitchen areas. Any suggestions for the living room and bedroom would also be welcomed.

Thanks for your help.

I'm in a similar situation. I have a vinyl headliner in my 91 U225, and while I'd prefer a fabric, I don't think it will hold up in the bathroom or kitchen. Still trying to figure it out...

On my first  motorhome years ago I had to do a major roof beam replacement as there had been a bad leak thru' it with the previous owner and they did not want to tackle it so I bought the unit for a  "song" as I knew I could fix it. This I did, then the next question was "what should I use for the replacement roof liner"? I visited the Bldg Matl store and picked out a nice light Vinyl covered panelling and fitted that in place and put a small 1/4 round moulding trim around the cabinets etc to finish it off. I put the matching edge strips across the joints and a couple spaced evenly thru the width of the panel and the whole thing looked good. Easy to clean and as there was a small crown in the roof I made it to have a slight pressure fit against the cabinets so the panel held itself up in reality.
Easy to do for anyone even with minor skills.
On my 93 GV I had to repair the vinyl liner back up and it was a slightly messy job respraying the 3m glue on foam and vinyl then sqeeging it back evenly. I topped it off with a few more snaps and buttons (made extra) at equal intervals across to make it look like it was a factory planned job.

MY Wife and I just rented a rug cleaner with upholstery cleaner and did the carpet and headliner in our u295. The headliner came out looking like new . I think the material is a boat headliner hull liner fabric that passes motor vehicle fire safety tests .You can find it on Ebay 72" wide at about $30 a running yard

Is the liner you found on eBay similar to the factory liner?
Foretravel has the original liner available in 96" width.

What adhesive did you use to glue the fabric to the roof?

Thanks for the help

I found the head liner they use and it is a marine hull liner. Go to a local upholstry outlet and they will have it in their samples.
The glue to use is a spray but it has to be the best 3M one and is around  $30 a can here. Make sure it is for headliners (not the regular type or it will all come down sooner than later). While at the upholsterers ask them for the name of it but you can get it at Napa or?

was just at Napa here and asked about the adhesive and they told me that they also carry a NORTON brand that is $15.00 and it is as good as the 3M. So there you are!

That is encouraging! We have yet to take possession our 99' U270, but planing our projects as a way to pass the time while waiting for money tranfers etc. There are a few very light what appear to be water stains in a couple of places on our headliner. Your post makes me wonder if the type of upholstery cleaner you used works on those... were there any such stains on yours that were successfully removed?
Thanks,
Don

When I repaired the headliner in my old 93 GV I was told by my upholstery friend to be very careful cleaning it as the glues hate any wet liquids. So be careful not to get it really wet.
The foam on that unit was letting go (disintegrating) and this is not uncommon after a bunch of years.
I used the 3m glue and that worked well.
