ice maker water leak and Direct tv

Well working on getting ready for my trip North and the following: With Help from a tech at MOT got the tracstar dome working for Direct tv. But no local channels?? When I put water in and put pressure on the water system, I noticed a small water leak coming from behind the refrigerator.
Isolated to the water line for the ice maker. Turned water off to ice maker and it stopped.
The question is how in the world do you get to the connection where the water line connects to the rear of the the frig or ice maker??? I can do without it on this trip. Tomorrow will put the awning out for the first time. Appears just push the button on remote. Key on?? 02 zipdee with arms.
Or there anyother secrets to the awning?? DAN

Dan,

Your ice maker water line will, in all likelyhood need to be replaced. You can get at MOT or other places. Will PM you if I find the part number. You will need to take the refrigerator out into the hallway to get to the back. Before trying the awing make sure you have fresh batteries. If the remote does not work you can do it thru the bay. Let me know if you need further help. BTDT. Key HAS to be off.

Jeff : Tks for the info. I put new batteries in the remote ; but, have not tried to open yet. So the key should be off. Will try tomorrow. The water line runs from the water filter under the sink which is on the opposite side of the coach from the fridge. This sounds like a lot of work for a water leak. Maybe the connector just needs tightening. Tks DAN

Our icemaker water line failed last year. It was due to the heat line deteriorating the water line (which just crumbled in our fingers). See this thread Dometic NDR-1492 icemaker water line deterioration/replacement

We live in the Houston broadcast area. We get the Houston local channels via DirecTV. The receiver in the coach is just another receiver on the home account. We found we could get the Houston stations in NAC. I would not expect to get them farther away.

Don't expect to get local stations via DirecTV unless you are in your "home" area. You may be able to get the major networks from east coast or west coast if you get a separate account for the RV. There are discussions of the issues elsewhere on the forum.

JD: I get the local channels on all my other receivers but not in the Foretravel. I have 101 and 110 locked in. but no local channel will come through. Tks DAN

Jeff: How do i do the awning opening and closing in the bay. I found the two black batteries in the awning box. I dont know if they are good or not but if it does not open I must assume they need to be replaced. These batteries should be found locally I assume. I have the awning manual and have read it but still confused as to how to open and close using the switches in the box. MOT cked out the operation, so I assume it will open. DAN

Heater Kit Domet Ice Maker 310686007 @ MOT $63.32 Labor $280.50. 3 hours. Would have taken me a week

I watched Chester and David Torres (at MOT) replace the water line on our fridge so the ice maker would be operational. I only opted to do it because the fridge is relatively new. I looked to me to be a bugger of a job. the fridge had to be disconnected totally from elec, propane and water ... jimmied out into the kitchen area ... and then skinny little David Torres had to squeeze behind it and harvest the old line and connect the new. Reverse procedure. The temperatures were hovering around 99 ... Dreadful job.

I won't, but we were quoted (and charged) 1 1/2 hours for the job

Then it turned out to be more involved than they expected. And cost one guy an eyebrow.

One of the things I like about MOT and Foretravel service is the hours charged.. They charged me for 3 hours, but it took 2 men almost 3 hours. I spend a huge amount of time in the service area and always stay close in the customer lounge. I also need to learn as much as possible. Mechanics have all been willing to share their knowledge.

Awning - Caution. Be sure the batteries in the control box in the bay of the coach are new. The remote battery is not what I caution you on. If the batteries in the control box are not charged enough, the awning will roll out but not roll back in. If you are in doubt on the condition of those batteries, I would replace them before you try the awning. Those are critical. We change ours out every year to be sure.

Dan,
Your ice maker supply line probably failed as a result of the heater. I had the same problem and did away with the heater as this is a very poor design. To eliminate supply line freeze up, I installed a tee in the line just down stream of the solenoid valve. Additionally I installed a small orifice in the remaining leg of the tee and ran a drain line to the existing freezer drain. I tested this set up this past winter and never had any freezing issues.

Is it correct that when the icemaker solenoid opens to flow water to ice maker, a little flows through your new small orifice to the drain? And when the solenoid closes, the line to the ice maker drains out slowly through this same orifice?

Yes. I looked at replacing the OEM solenoid with a three way valve, but elected to follow the KISS principle.

Ice maker water leak

Our '99 U320,the ice maker hose "fell" apart shortly after purchasing in 2005. I replaced it with polyethylene (Home depot $1.99). It looked like it had been "repaired" before, as there was a brass nipple in the line.
The ice maker stand alone compressor in the bottom of the ref. quit the following spring. The replacement cost was $350 @Camping World but they couldn't install it because of the freon. Couldn't find anyone else to do it. The ice maker wouldn't freeze the tray without the stand alone compressor.
So, removed the ice maker and put a shelf and 4 ice cube trays and fill the ice bucket as we go along.

In talking with a rep from Dometic at the Bowling Green FMCA ,he said what we did was the best solution as he didn't know why they put in the extra compressor. Beside if you dry camp, it didn't work anyway.

Direct tv

We have the org. Datron DBS-3000-300 dish controller and the Sony digital satellite receiver SAT-A3.
Have cable at the house and didn't watch much tv on the road. Spending more time traveling.
The real reason for this is that we're thinking about replacing the old CRT with a new 32". There will be a bit of work, but since I'll have the old sawsall out (just joking about the sawsall), I'm looking at all options.

Question: Is this still a useable system or do we bit the bullet and upgrade?
This all worked when we purchased her, but never open an account with Direct TV.
Sony Hot Line claimed that the receiver doesn't support Direct TV, although I have there access card with the receiver.

The DBS dish still raises and rotates. Can I change out the LNB for a new one?

Sorry about 2 subjects in the same post, but the one subject I had info on and the other I had questions.

Dick,

We did something similar and removed the ice maker. As Rudy Legget pointed out, the shelf holds a half gallon of ice cream. We buy ice when we need it. Simple solutions work best for us.

I'd bite the bullet on the Datron. We did four years ago and have been very happy with the Winegard HD dish.
