new sunshades - what a difference!

When we purchased our 2003 coach in late 2009, it came with exterior black sunshades for the front windshield, driver's side window, passenger door window, and wiper blade covers made by the RV Sunshade Company.  We have really enjoyed these shades (the fasteners are snaps - not the twist lock or other styles), although we have no idea how old they are.  They are in excellent shape, and they do a great job of providing daytime privacy (while allowing a great view outside), increasing the light into the coach (as opposed to using the pull-down/accordion daytime privacy shades), and keeping out a good bit of the heat (better to block the sun before it gets into the coach).  They are very quick to snap on, and George usually puts them up if we are going to be longer than a night or two.  He normally has the ladder out anyway (to wash the bugs from the front window), so it doesn't take much time to snap the shades into place.

Since we wanted additional shades (on all the large side windows) before we arrive in Benson/Tucson at the end of the month, I Googled around to find the manufacturer (there are at least 3 with similar names, but I matched the number on the label:  877-422-5679).  A few emails later, we learned that one of the distributors was not far from our current location in Virgin, UT... two days later, they were on site and installing the sun shades which, as you can see below, look like they came with the coach and match our current shades perfectly!

The distributors/installers (Todd and Renee Seeley) were wonderful to work with, and the 6 shades were finished in a little under three hours.  They were very professional, the work was exact and well done (custom measurements - she set up her industrial sewing machine right out of their van on our site)... pop rivets (not screws for the snaps) with a little silicone caulk.  The snaps are black, so they are very unobtrusive (no shiny glare in the sun).  And they have a 10-year warranty through the main company contact.

I learned something about why they are black, since they don't sell any other color - this is from their website, and from what they told us:

* shows the least dirt
* looks good on any color RV
* absorbs the most heat, keeping it out of the coach
* easiest to see through; an optometrist told them that the eye tends to focus on the color of the shade, rather than the view - but with black, it focuses directly on the view

The product also has some silver filaments, which are supposed to help with the reflective quality of the fabric.  In any case, we are very pleased and looking forward to seeing how they perform in the heat of Arizona next month!  :o

I think these are the same ones we had made in 2003 from a distributor here in Calif.
But ours were cream color to match the coach.
They sure do help with the heat. We only use them if we are staying longer than a day also.
