Now I know what the safe is for...

It's to keep your Splendide hoses in!  I bought one without a hose kit thinking I would just use a standard angled laundry hose set.  Wrong, not enough clearance.  Checked PPL for a factory set of hoses, and I see $96.00.  Each. 

Obviously if anybody has a set  available I'm a buyer.  I've wondered if it might be possible to build something out of PEX?

That is called "gouging."  What a ridiculous price.  I just sent an e-mail to Richard Dahl at the Water Filter Store to think about selling replacement hoses.
George Stoltz.  Retired from full-time living in a great Foretravel and now are back to living in a traditional sticks and bricks in Florida.

For some reason, I recall that the connection on the machine isn't a standard thread.  If you find otherwise, let us know.  We had our hoses replaced under warranty 3 years ago (CW had nicked one when opening the package with a utility knife and it failed while we on the road), but Splendide does recommend replacing every 5 years.  I would rather use a metal braided/reinforced hose when we replace.

Are the hoses you tried a 90 degree angle?  I saw some references to trying that style when I Googled for replacement hoses just now.

Most likely they are metric, we had to use adapters for the install of laundry in the commercial field, check with a good appliance parts house and ask for metric to  american hose adapters.

I pulled up the manual, and it states

Included in the accessories supplied with your machine are 2 inlet hoses with 4 rubber washers
pre installed. Check that the rubber washers are installed in the ends of the inlet hoses to make a
water tight seal at each connection point.

Connect the straight ends of the water inlet hoses to the supply taps that have ¾" BSP thread (standard hose bib).

Connect the 90º angled ends (20 mm thread) of these hoses to the inlet valves on the back of the machine

So yes, machine has 20 mm threads.

Well, the metric size throws another kink into it.  The problem I'm running into is the fact that there is very little clearance front to back.  No room for an adapter and a standard angled washing mach hose.  I'm going to look at possibly cutting internal threads on the inlets and see if I can screw in a 90 degree compression fitting to 3/8".  Then again maybe I'll just wave my smokin hot credit card at the matter and solve it like a normal person would.
