LED replacement for 1076 light bulbs

Today I bought a LED light bulb from Camping World that is supposed to be a replacement for the 1076 duel contact incandescent bulbs that go in many of the 12 volt lamp fixtures in our coaches.  As many of you know, these bulbs put out a lot of heat and don't last long.

The guy at CW said they were twice as bright as the 1076s and lasted 5 times as long.  So I bought one given the cost... maybe one would do for two of the incandescent bulbs.  The LED was very dim.  After checking around the internet (I should have done this first) I found that the CW LED is half as bright as a typical 1076 bulb (205 lumens rather than 400).  Since the LED costs about 33 times the cost of the incandescent, I'm going to take it back.  Sure it will last a lot longer (one source says 3000 times as long), but with such a low lumen output, they are really not a good sub for the 1076 (IMHO).

So has anyone found an LED replacement for these 1076 bulbs with better light output?  I want something I can just plug in (i.e., not rework the lamps for a new type of bulb).

Thanks in advance.

George,

I used these to replace the 1142 and 1076 bulbs installed in my lamps.  The bright white puts out plenty of light for reading.

George,

I replaced all of my lights with LED's this year at Quartzsite.  For the 1076 replacements, I used the 255  LMS from this company: 1076 chandeliers sconces 225 - Star Lights, Inc.  They're not inexpensive, but they put out a lot of light.  They also produce a 205 LMS as a replacement for the 1076.

FWIW - I've been researching replacing the lighting in my 91 U225 with LEDs. There is a lot of hype surrounding LED lighting; the bottom line is while your LED lamp may use less power, it's also putting out less light. The light coming from an LED is a narrow beam, by virtue of the lens molded into the body. I can see replacing spotlighting, and perhaps some incandescant bulbs, with LED clusters, but I've decided to stick with fluorescent fixtures for the main lighting in the coach. I'd have to use two to four times as many LEDs for the same lumens, spend a lot of money, and not get any more light.

Can't say I care for the ridiculous prices being charged for incandescant LED replacements, not to mention the reduced lumens. While the technology is still evolving, it's not there yet. While I see newer LEDs putting out more light, they also draw a lot more power, and in some cases, require heat sinks.

I just relamped all the fluorescents in the coach - 8w (14 lamps - $1.49 ea) and 13w (10 lamps - $1.59 ea). Cost with shipping was $43 (with a few spares left over). They may not last as long, but put out the light, and are inexpensive to replace. Am likely going to add a couple of circline fluorescent fixtures (kitchen, couch) to really light up those areas when needed.

Still considering replacing the incandescant lamps, but haven't decided yet. Watching to see how you make out George.  ;) It's clear you have to shop carefully - lumens and watts is what tells the story. I see a lot of retailers rating their lamps as "bright" or "super bright" without actually providing any data. For me - no data, no sale.
