Carpet in washer/dryer compartment

I removed the Splendide  washer/dryer from it's installed location in the bathroom cedar closet. I noticed that there is no carpet under the unit, only around the sides and in front.
I thought this may be the intended installation because of a possible fire hazard with carpeting directly underneath.
I want to replace the carpet and thought I should ask the experts.
Should I carpet the entire floor area where the unit sits, or just around the edges as it's installed now.

I can say that it looks like the Splendide in our 1997 U295 was installed the same way by the factory. There is no carpet under the unit. The carpet extends to just under the front edge and I think it also extends down each side. I expect the factory had a good reason for doing the installation that way.

We plan to replace as much of the carpet as we can with hard surfaces when the change fits in the budget. We plan to take it to FOT to have the changes made. David Flanagan told us he normally keeps carpet in the bedroom area because of issues with sound transmission and subfloor materials. He will put hard surfaces forward of the bedroom. I don't know specifically what he does around the Splendide if he replaces all the flooring with hard surfaces in the front and carpet in the bedroom.

Our '03 also just has the perimeter carpet in the Splendide area.

I would say David suggests the most cost-effective option  ^.^d and does whatever you ask of him.  When we replaced our old carpet with new, we did not replace what was inside closets or cabinets.  David couldn't see spending money on something you don't really see or doesn't have wear, and neither could we.  I would think the perimeter carpet could keep any friction-induced squeaking to a minimum, plus help keep the machine in place slightly better than being placed on a continuous solid surface.

No drip pan in mine... Just a stud screwed to the floor on both sides to keep it from moving around.

No drip pan under ours.
George Stoltz.  Retired from full-time living in a great Foretravel and now are back to living in a traditional sticks and bricks in Florida.

Yes, we have a drip pan. Had it installed at MOT. Would not be without one. Past experience has told to have one.  All The Best Karl
