HWH Actuator Repair Help

Ok, I'm trying to fix my leveling system.  The first time I used it, it worked great other than the rear driver actuator on the kick-down jacks started leaking hydraulic oil out a pin size hole in the bottom of the actuator.  Today I was able to pull the cover off an look inside.  I have no experience with these, but I pulled out what looks like a small seal that was covering the hole.  I've listed some pictures for identification.

Picture #5 - This is a picture of the small seal I was able to pull out.  I don't know if there was more to it and it was just destroyed due to age or if this is it?

Has anyone opened one of these up and fixed it before?  I'm going to try and contact HWH tomorrow, but I'm hoping this is something that's standard and I'll be able to go to some hydraulic shop around town for a quick part replacement.

Send those photos and your question to HWH.  They have great customer support.  Be sure to include your jack model number.

Benjie, that looks like a 610 kick down model similar to what my 93 GV had. I had serviced them a few years ago and had HWH send me the seals-o rings to me. The system is pretty simple and here is the manual for them so this may help.

Hi Benjie, I have the same coach as you do just a 1990 model. I just finished re Installing the left rear leveling unit that HWH rebuilt.
The cost was around $110 with shipping for them to go threw both  the small and larger jack.
That nut you were holding serves two purposes. first it holds everything In place and second it adjusts the throw of the kick down cylinder. when I re installed the unit It took about three trys to get the unit perpendicular to the chassis. I also welded up a simple spring expander for re Installing the springs. I would be more then willing to send you some pictures of It If you would like.

Do you know what model jacks yours are? HWH said that the model number should be on the side of the large black cylinder but I can't seem to see it anywhere!

Benjie- try 610 !!! Look at the manual I sent and see if it matches.

Hi Benjie, Sorry for the delay. I was at work for the first post. The rear jack is a AP3677
The small actuator is AP 4210.

P.S. I see your from Round Rock. My youngest daughter attends Southwestern In Georgetown. That's the first long trip we have taken with the coach. It ran great.

Mine is a series 400. It's a paddle control vs the 610. When I spoke to HWH earlier today, they explained that 610 and 400 told them nothing about the jacks, only the controller. :-(. Thanks for the help tho! Keep the inputs coming!

Hi Benjie, I took some pictures of my spring expander. Here's the parts list. The main reason I used this material is it's what I had In my garage. I will take some pictures of the jack in the morning. Thanks

Awesome!  Those pics help a ton!  I'm almost positive my jacks don't have the PN sticker or whatever that is on them anymore unless there is just a ton of road grime covering them and I only wiped off the top layer...lol.  I spoke to HWH and apparently they don't offer the seals.  They told me my option was purchase a new actuator for $240 or recondition the old ones with a max price of $170.  How long did it take for them to turn the transaction?  I was hoping to have this working by the next time we leave town which is Sept. 30, but looking like a long shot now unless I just purchase new.

Benji, I don't know if the jacks are the same but on my 93, U225 I had one of the back actuators replaced at the FMCA convention in Albuquerque last year for $129 including labor. The work was done by an authorized independent contractor who was at FMCA to do HWH repair work. I suggest you check HWH Mobile Service Centers, it will give you a list of authorized repair centers in Texas.

Done!  Thanks for the suggestion!  Didn't even realize they had mobile service centers.  Closest one is Canyon Lake which isn't too far of a drive and might be worth driving down to break in these new belts I had put on!  I did notice there's really no one within 60 miles of the Austin area.  Maybe I should start a part time gig and become a HWH mobile mechanic! :-)

Emailed Osburn RV Service in Canyon Lake explaining the situation and got this back... "I wouldn't be able to help you with it. Sorry".  Bummer!  I guess I'm back to square one unless we want to plan a trip closer to one of the other HWH repair places.

Benjie, How about taking that Jack to a hydraulic repair shop and letting them look at it.  If it is a seal problem they may  have a seal or a solution.  If you were in Conyers, GA I would suggest Grady Coggins shop, he is all things hydraulic.  Heck, Give him a call he may have a solution for you, Grady 770-860-1001 or Grady@hydraulicfieldservices.com
