C A C repair

Well we have just arrived back after our 2 day stint climbing mtns around here to test out my fix on the CAC I told you all about recently, and also to see what the removal of muffler does.
I now can say with some authority that this has been the biggest/ best mod' I have done on our 2000 295. We climbed many 5500ft hills and very long grades without one peep from the engine. It just sailed up easily and sounds great. I had one Semi driver that was waiting for a ferry behind me and he had seen me pass him so when stopped asked me what engine etc I had. He told me he has a pusher with the same Cummins but it does not go like mine. He is going to do the same when he gets a chance.
My fixes on the CAC are not a problem and the gauge showed at one time 34lbs turbo pressure while climbing. It was mostly up to 32. This is a different unit now and I would suggest that others consider it too if you feel a bit more hp would be nice. I do not know what it has done to MPG as due to all the climbing it would be impossible to look at that fairly. The trip was around 500 miles and I bet over 200 was climbing!!

Great news.  If we all keep doing our own repairs, MOT and FOT are gonna be hurtin'.  I'm just sayin'.

George, this was not just a repair they would have done, I was told it could not be done!! and would have cost me over 4k there. I did it for $62 plus a few hours labour.

So John, do I understand that you think the resonator is the primary reason for the improvement or is the CAC the main reason or is it both? Refresh my memory, what did you do to the CAC?

my feelings are that the removal of exhaust is the main reason and the resonator was put in to calm the extra noise. As Dave M said it is just a tube really which has a liner with millions of holes in it to disrupt the sound of the exhaust and make it muted sort of ??? There is nothing to act as a buffer and restrict the movement of exhaust gases coming from the manifold so no "exhaust brake"effect on the engine. Kent maybe you missed my postings on what I and Dave and a couple others have done (I followed their lead)in doing this but on Barries web you can get the idea by looking at "Muffler modifications"
I was also going to go with the 5" Aero but I would try this first as it was a $70 fix for the part so nothing lost really.
The CAC was repaired by me and made the boost pressure usable ( I had 3 holes in it and losing pressure, though I did not know it at the time). This obviously made a big difference too when climbing hills. The engine manifold temp was also a nice bonus as it I figure about 200 degrees cooler when under pressure as I have a guage that I am always lookin at so noticed that one first.
