Re: Tire UV covers Reply #1 – September 25, 2011, 07:01:50 pm Boy, I wish I had known you needed tire covers. I have a brand new set of black vinyl ones from Camping World that were too small for my U300. If anyone is interested, make an offer. I paid $29.95 per pair. If you like you can send a PM to me. Thanks! Quote Selected
Re: Tire UV covers Reply #2 – September 25, 2011, 07:45:50 pm I'm sure you bought for 22.5" tire...are your tires too wide? I've been thinking of buying a set myself. Quote Selected
Re: Tire UV covers Reply #3 – September 25, 2011, 08:05:36 pm Yes they are for a 22.5" wheel but the U300's tires, 2.75 X 80R, are both taller and wider than the U225 or U240. The covers I have are extra large but they weren't big enough for U300 tires. They would be plenty large for a U225 or U240. Quote Selected
Re: Tire UV covers Reply #4 – September 25, 2011, 08:07:14 pm Pat, I just noticed that you used the UV Mesh for your covers. Where did you get the materials? Quote Selected
Re: Tire UV covers Reply #5 – September 25, 2011, 08:57:37 pm Found it at closeout price at WallyWorld. $11.00. The Scotch All weather Fasteners cost me more. But it was still cheaper, and just as good, than the commerical product! I also did the coach windows with the UV sun shade, all of them. Makes a big difference in interior temperature. Did them in tan. Got that at Home Depot garden section. Quote Selected
Re: Tire UV covers Reply #6 – September 25, 2011, 09:11:21 pm When you say scotch fasteners, can you post a photo of how they attach. My UV shade on the windshield is attached with industrial strength Velcro that is adhered to the rubber gasket around the windshield. Its amazing you strong that stuff bonds to the rubber. Re: Tire UV covers Reply #7 – September 25, 2011, 10:20:41 pm They are a self adhesive, clear, soft plastic, hook and loop type strip. Scotch(R) Fasteners All-Weather It sticks to most anything, but I used some fabric goop to make sure that they stick to the UV fabric. It did appear to stick with out the glue, but I was not real comfortable and the fabric goop was cheap. With the fabric goop, there is no separating it. So the fabric has one strip and the other is on the window. Just put them on the tops. For the windshield I used suction cups which have a plastic thumb pin that you stick into the suction cups. They are used by one of the companies that manufacture window shades. They work real nice too.RV Quick Shades Suction Cups 5 Pack Quote Selected
Re: Tire UV covers Reply #8 – September 26, 2011, 08:47:39 am If anyone is interested in making their own tire covers check out the article by Jim Twamley in RVTRAVEL.COM He was my neighbor in Visalia Ca. last year. Covers have held up very well. I have seen a marked difference in the tire heating as compared to the previously used vinyl covers, which did not last. I have made the comparison by monitoring tire pressure increases, utilizing the Pressure Pro system.RV NOW with Jim Twamley: Innovations Quote Selected
