Sony audio

Our U-240 has a Sony cassette radio (dead) up front with five Sony speakers.  One is mounted at a odd place.  It's to the left of the drivers ear facing down.  It this part of the dash radio or something else?

BTW there is another one, Sony cassette, in the back, that works, but darned if I can find the speakers.  LOL.

In our U295, the radio in the cabinet on curb side drives speakers that are mounted on each side of the pedestal for the bed. They are near the foot of the bed.

On both my '94 & '95 U 240's the speakers for the bedside radio were on the pedestal of the bed, don't remember just where, seems they were near the foot on the sides. Remember they were in the way when I installed shoe bags along the sides of the pedestal.
No RV! Have hung up the keys.

I think you will find that the speaker point down by the drivers head is for the CB Radio. At least that's the way it was in both of our 93 coaches. It had nothing to do with the stereo.

Thanks Kent.  That would make sense.  CB antenne is missing.  On my list, but not a priority.  Found the BR speakers.  On the foot of the bed pedestal under the skirt.  Didn't think to look there.

Our CB speaker would rattle when the stereo was playing.  I stuck a piece of soft foam over the back of the speaker inside the cabinet to prevent the rattle.

This is for my 1993 U300. Your U240 may or may not have the same radio.

You should take a look and make sure it's dead. Check power and if you have 12V, check to see if anything on the display comes on. This radio is a good one and has a lot of features but you need to read the book (online) to figure out some of them. There is a nifty audio selector under the dash top with several inputs and outputs including a USB port so anything from a iPhone to a laptop can be plugged it. USB menu only visible on radio after USB accessory is plugged in.

My speakers were bad so replaced with a little larger units for about $50 and a couple of hours with the saber saw and vacuum. A big difference in the sound for not much $$. Speakers above sofa OK so did not touch them.

Hey, I tried to figure out what that center speaker was for a long time until I finally turned the CB on so don't feel bad.

This may be the thread closest to my question.  So, I am using it, rather than starting a new one.  My search for DASH RADIO did not  come up with an answer.
I am going NUTS (more so ;^) driving days after day (like to Nac and back) without being able to listen to radio.
The only forward speakers I can see are the Bose surround system.  I think it requires 110V power.
The Sony dash radio powers up and stops at stations it finds.  But, I hear nothing.
Must I use the inverter to power the Bose in order to hear the dash radio on the road??  might better set a boom box on the floor.

On my 97, the Bose system must be on and I have to select "Audio 1" to get any sound.  That means the inverter must be on.
Newer units have speakers under the overhead cabinets...in the same area as where the CB speaker is on my 97.... I'm considering mounting speakers there on mine.

There are three speakers in front of the the windshield valance: two Blaupunkts ( I think) for the radio and one speaker in the center for the CB. Put your head all the way toward the windshield and look up. I had to replace the Sony shortly after I bought the coach.

In the interim, you should be able to run the Bose on the inverter. Need the remote handy to change stations.

i just tried practically all the buttons on the Bose remote, with shore power on.  The remote sensor for the Bose had the red LED on.  The radio was tuned to a local station.  The volume visual scale was half way across.  S I L E N S E.
Bob, you were sort of right.  Until your reply, I had not ducked down and looked in the nook by the top of the WS.  There is ONE 6" speaker up there (for CB, I suppose, which I have not used either).
The Sony dash radio in question was probably a high-end model (in a Foretravel, after all ;^)  model XR-CA600X.
has CD changer control capability.  has pull down face, behind which is a cassette opening.
Perhaps if I go to a local car audio place, they can pull the radio our of the sheet metal sleeve and see if it works other than as it is configured in my coach.

At least one of those three speakers (that's the almost part above) keeps losing the cover. What is the trick for keeping them on?

I just tackled this in my new to me '94 U240.

There are 4 6.5" speakers that are poor quality compared with what you can get today. I had some lying around that were removed from my boat during a major interior upgrade. They had 4 mouting positions instead of 3 so drilling a few small holes on the fiberglass bulkhead up front was required. In the back, I just screwed into the wood bulkhead. A 30-minute job all told. These also mount through the cover, so the covers won't fall out of place.

I found a pioneer head unit at best buy for $100. It has a usb connection, Bluetooth, and best of all, a wired microphone for hands free calling. I clipped the microphone onto the dash panel that faces the gauge cluster.  There is a round vent that was removed amd it looks Sano from the drivers position.

The issue I ran into was that I couldn't find a reliable ignition/accessory wire to run the head unit. The constant power wire was tied into the ignition wire going to the head unit under the dash.  Since the old unit could actually be completely turned off at the faceplate (unlike any modern head unit I know of) this posed the problem of not being able to turn the unit off!

I thought about my options (including finding another head unit) but I decided to install a radio switch like many boats have.

I found a small push button switch (think map lights) rated for 10 amps (max the head unit will put out) and spliced it into the ignition power wire.  This way the unit always gets 12v power to keep my settings: clock, Bluetooth info, etc. and gets its "operating" power when I press the button. No keys needed in the ignition!

I installed the button on the panel just below the air conditioning/heater control, next to the generator rocker switch etc.

Works great!
