Biggie on Fuel Mileage

Had another education today, when a mechanic leaves the wet tank petcock open, and saying everything is good to go.  Turned out that I drove from Nac to Flying J at Pearl MS, when I noticed when after refueling both diesel and LPGas, I was unable to build air pressure above 75 psi.
Having just had a brake system installed on my toad, I noticed my mpg had dropped to 7.1 mpg from my normal 8.5+ mpg. So I was guessing brake drag, nope, was the air compressor running full tilt, unable to unload with the petcock open.  After having that solved, my mileage is back to normal readings of 8.5+
Point is a heavy air leak cost mpg for sure. AND I know who will never touch my coach again !

Also a good way figuring if one of your airbags has a hole in it. I kept wondering why my air pressure suddenly was cycling constantly. Shut the engine off at 100 psi and stuck my head out the window. Had a pretty good hiss to it. Made it home OK and will have a post shortly on how to replace the bags without much fuss.

Dave remnided me of last Nov when at FT and I decided to have an oil change etc while camping there. I use Amsoil, so I ordered it online to be delivered at FT and a couple of days later one of the mech's did it along as I said a few things,great. Only problem was he forgot to put the top oil filler cap on and backed it out the shop and said"good to go" ??? Well within seconds of course a nice big trail of my oil was running down the yard and a mechanic waving madly to stop. It was funny as I thought that was a thing us part time mechanics do once in a lifetime. He felt bad of course, so there whent my few extra litres of oil to bring it back up to level. A can of degreaser was used to clean the engine and all was well. I was given a break on the labor cost which was niceand all ended well. Funny.

We all make mistakes but the "Professionals" should make fewer mistakes than us amateurs. That's why we pay their $110/hr shop rate. I have actually had fewer problems with FOT and MOT than with Cummins service, however I still have had to fix several things that each have neglected. The nice thing about FOT and MOT is that they will offset the charges to cover their mistakes. Cummins just lies about their mistakes and tries to make you feel stupid. They give no brake on their labor to offset their blunders. I will find out about the local Detroit Shop Monday. I sure hope they are better than Cummins.

Rick, I was trying to figure out why you would think I was there and then I looked back at my comment and realised I had left out a couple of words, which totally changed the context of my comment. Should have read "along with a few other things, as I said,great!!"
