Locked out of the safe ....

I know this topic has been covered before ...  I just couldn't find it.  We are having trouble opening the safe in this '02.  It has the battery operated keypad ... and I am fairly sure that the combination is the factory pre-set of 12345 ... I have opened it before, but I am doing something wrong.  I am fairly sure that it is just a LITTLE glitch on my part, and Jeff has no clue. 

Help??

Carol, have you replaced the battery?  We got bit by that one.

Don't think it is the battery ... but I will certainly check.  I am thinking that when we had our house batteries replaced recently and all the power was off for an extended period that something got reset.  When you put in the combination, is there a # or * that you need to his after?  I can find ZERO instructions to this safe in the "Box of Knowledge" that came with the coach. Shouldn't there be some kind of "how to" included in the owner's information???

I'm pretty sure the safe is not connected to the coach electrically in any way.

Yeah ... nothing on that list of things is helpful just now.  Is the combination 4 digits or 5 digits?  I seem to remember that the combination was 12345.  We seldom use the safe for anything, so that was just fine for us.  Am I on the right track?

Carol, assuming we have the same safe, the combination is 4 digits.  I did have to change the battery recently and the link to the PDF above was very helpful.  I couldn't close the safe, since the battery was too weak (a sad little "beep beep" and a barely flickering light was another clue, when I couldn't close it).  Let us know if that helps!

I love the idea of a Safe, but is a Safe a good idea ?  Reason I wonder, Seems to me, that anyone in that frame of mind would stick a gun in your face and tell you to open your safe.  There fore I think open it with q $20.00 bill in it, saying "That is all I have left"
There are other places I hope for a bundle?

I think the need for the Safe use is when your at a shop where workers are in/out of your coach ?

Carol,

I seem to remember that if you called Foretravel with your VIN # they could give it to you.  Not sure if its only for the mechanical safe though.  If the previous owner changed it FoT might be able to let you contact him.  Failing this I would contact the manufacturer as they may have a reset code for it.  After that it's a locksmith.

Carol & Jeff.I do believe the combination on my electronic safe lock is 6 digits.
No RV! Have hung up the keys.

Carol, our 2002's safe is a 6 digit code.  Of course I have written down our combination but for the life of me can't remeber where I put the paper that has the code! 

Try 123456 and see if that works!

I know where mine is - in the safe!!!  but it isn't locked, and it is a old manual combination lock.  And I was well trained on them by the government.  But those new fangled electrical things???

We have a bag of desiccant in ours...  No, not the $50+ HWH desiccant I can home-bag for $2.50, but the basic kind that comes in vitamin bottles.  It was there when we bought the coach.  I think the PO put it there to keep the safe from smelling musty.

We have an old fashioned 1997 safe with a mechanical dial lock. The combination is stored on the iPhone, which is backed up regularly to the MacBook.

Our safe contains the desiccant. I dried it it the toaster oven and managed not to set it afire. I also keep backup disks for our computer systems in the safe.

We keep some dust, my State Quarter collection, the credit cards we never use and some other goofy stuff ... along with some ancient desiccant.  I have gotten such good advice from txforetravel on a variety of things, that I owe then a Sushi dinner AND one at Posado's!!!

So is it safe to assume you were able to crack the safe?  Congrats!  Now you can move on to banks!

Well ... at least cracking safes in a bank would not involve getting down on my hands and knees or standing on my head in a very small space.    If I was a performer for Cirque du Soliel I might have an easier time with that thing!
