Bay Door Alignment

My large bay doors are down a bit on one side, maybe a quarter inch or so. I was going to adjust them but I can't see any way to do it without making some modifications. Has anyone done this per chance? The only adjustment I can find is on the latch (red arrow) which can be slid up or down. Once changed, however, the latch no longer lines up with the pin (blue arrow) which is not adjustable. Thanks.

That pin (blue arrow) looks like the same assembly Dodge used on the tailgate of our 3/4 ton pickup truck. If it is, then you can loosen the pin from its backing plate (unscrew it) and move it to a spot where it works.

Thanks, Craig. I neglected to mention that the pin is adjustable but only horizontally. I can probably drill/grind it so I can get a little vertical adjustment.

On my pickup bed the pin is mounted so that it moves on an angle so moving it down also moves it away (or towards - I forget which) and up is the opposite. Perhaps not the most useful adjustment in the world but I managed to re-adjust it for the tailgate that fell off and got dragged down the road (hey! it's a farm truck... who cares what it looks like? LOL).

I think that some judicious carving might help. Especially since it's not a big change. You might also look at the way it's mounted in the bay and see if you can alter that a little.

Good luck!

Jor,

Which bay is it?  Door misalignment was the thing that led me to my bulkhead separation problem.

I, too, have a bay-door that recently will no-longer open. It's the most forward, street-side and it "appears" it's the latch mechanism that's simply not releasing. Anyone who has come up with a method for opening a reluctant single-latch (bottom-center) is solicited! Thanks!

If the door operated fine all the time and suddenly the door does not operate as it should, and the pin is not lose and the latching mechanism operates as designed, I'd look elsewhere for the problem.  i.e. bulkhead separation.

while on the subject of Bay doors, I, in my split second miss of not noticing a concrete post down here did a real good number on the passenger side middle bay door!! It could be toast as it is split open on the inside next to door frame. I have tried contacting both Jennifer and \james at Xtreme but not heard back from either of them to see about sending some pictures of it for a possible quote as I may use my Mexican Ins and have them repair it on return journey. Maybe they do not want the job. Any ideas on who I should e-mail about it?? Does Foretravel do body work ?? Ideas please. Dave M, what do you think?

If you can get  a few pictures to James at Xtreme, he'll give you an estimate of the repairs.  Don't know that FOT will do the same.

John,
Don't fret.  They're good about this.  Give him a call in a few days.  They may be traveling. You might try sending a message to Kristin Hudson [kristin@xtremegraphics.net] in the office.

It's the large bay with the Joey beds, both sides. It's not a big deal. The doors work fine - just not aligned exactly right. No bulkhead separation. I plan on stopping by Extreme and Foretravel when I get down that way and I'll ask them what's up.

John,

I talked to extreme just now on phone on your behalf - they will be emailing you under speperate PM, yes they want the work, James is out to breakfast and I am sure will check in a bit.

Perhaps the links you used from their website

Yes, FOT does paint work, but I have had great results with Xtreme, wonderful service, more than fair pricing.

as  it turns out he did and so did Jennifer she said it was in their junk mail !!! (so that is what I have come too-junk!!)
Anyway I sent some pics to them and hopefully they can get back to me first thing in the am as the Ins adjuster is coming out at 10 am so it would be nice to have something to show them. The ruling is with Mex ins of course is  that they price it on Mex labour and parts if available but do give you the right to take it out the country to fix if they cannot get someone to fix it to my liking. I may end up with a cash settlement, minus the $800 deductible. It is going to be interesting to say the least.
Thanks
John

John H,
By all means take it to Xtreme and let Rance do his thing, you will not believe what that guy can do with fiberglass.  And you will find the paint shop better than most by far.  Ask anyone who has been there, I have  spent a fair amount of money on paint and mods with Xtreme, I laugh, and thinking of more mods Rance can do for me. Like a piano hinge on both sides, for the radiator side opening and other for a/c condenser fan aide. Then the air intake mod. I feel anywhere else is over priced for the quality work.
Enjoy

actually Dave, I used your name in my first e-mail to James as being a very satisfied client of theirs so that  was why I was contacting them. IF it works out I have a long trip north and east to get there from here just north of P Vallarta mexico. I do not leave till end of Feb.

John,

You may want to invoke the names of Barry and Cindy, also, when you talk to the folk at Xtreme. When we were there in June, an excellent and interesting letter of recommendation from them was prominently displayed in the office.

If you are there for a couple of days, walk around and look the place over. I was fascinated by the work going on. (Work fascinates me. I can watch other people do it for hours.  :D ) See if the guys in the design shop will give you a tour. It was interesting to see how they create the graphics and transfer them to the big vehicles.

Best wishes for effective repairs.

Don't know if this will help.
