atwood water heater install thermostat

When installing this add on feature (thermostat), where is it installed? Can I do this from outside the U270 (2004)? Or from inside through one of the cabinets? What tools were needed? And what electrical connections were made?
As for the new drain plug (on the Atwood water heater) I installed, made the transition from the  atwood's aluminum to galvanised pipe via heat resistant plastic coupler. Of course wrapping all with Teflon tape.

The thermostat is installed from the outside.  It's covered by a piece thin black foam (adhesive on one side) with just the spade terminals sticking through.  Both the ECO (Emergency Cut Off) and thermostat are under this foam and both parts look nearly identical.  The foam has printing on it that indicates which is which.  Remove the wires (2) and peel back (or tear off) the foam to get the the thermostat.  It held in with a metal ring and spring.  You have to manipulate both to get it free.  It's difficult to describe.  Installation is just the reverse but it is important to make sure that head of the thermostat is resting against the tank - that's what that spring is for.  It doesn't matter which terminal goes to which wire.  New thermostats typically come with a new foam piece.
Hope this helps,

When you work on the electrical components on an Atwood water heater, remove any source of power to the circuits. 120VAC can hurt or kill a person. If 12VDC is on, it is very easy to blow fuses.

I am puzzled regarding "add on feature (thermostat)." I thought the thermostat was an integral part of an Atwood water heater.

I recommend this document to help understand the Atwood water heaters. http://manuals.adventurerv.net/Atwood-Water-Heater-Service.pdf

Are you talking about the Atwood 93105 adjustable thermostat, if so it will replace the pre set stat, the kit comes with complete instructions.

And its about a 4 minute install... Really cuts down on the cycle times for the propane heat.
