Wall Panel beside drivers seat - U225

Want to mount a  two way radio on the wall panel beside drivers seat, just to the rear of the HWH leveling system.  Is there any reason I should not be drilling holes in that panel that anyone knows of?

Pat,

I know it is not the question you asked, but have you considered one of the remote mount CB's such as the Cobra 75 WX ST?

That is what many of us have gone to and does not require anything showing but the mike head which has the controls in it.

Have one of those that doesn't work anymore.  Push the buttons and nothing happens.  Have had it apart several times to try to get it to work with no luck.

Anyway, I have a like new Cobra 29LTD Classic that didn't cost me a dime, and it is a super nice radio with a Astatic noise canceling mike.  That spot is about the only place it will fit where I can reach it.

It is not necessary to drill any holes.  There are several high performance tapes and Velcro like things to use that will hold the radio.  I have one mounted in my tow vehicle with tape.  We used it when we stacked radios in police and fire vehicles and never had a failure.  In fact getting them apart was the only problem.

Any that I have used have not wanted to stick to well on the sticky side.  But with something larger like that, maybe longer pieces will help.  Will give it a try, thanks.

Just use heavy duty commercial Velcro like Coil 'N Wrap sells.

I have a 2 band amatuer radio installed vertically in my Suburban.  I too used the heavy duty Velcro and have not had any problems after several thousand miles.

Home Depot or Lowes sells "industrial strength" velcro about 2" wide in a roll.  I carry that stuff with me everywhere :)  Will hold up stuff on a wall like you wouldn't believe.

Brett. I used that handheld unit in my first three units, I have small hands and every time I lifted it off the hook my hand would rotate either the volume or the squelch thumb wheels and I wound up with no reception. A friend who was NOT mechanically inclined had the same problem. I finally taped his squelch control. Anyway, my present coach has an inexpensive Midland unit mounted on the bulkhead outboard of my right knee. I didn't know what heaven was.

Here is a source for various types of adhesive tape.  We use their products at my company but they will take small orders.
