IF I went with tile again, it would have to have some heater strips under it.  Way too cold in the winter on the feet.  And hard.

I like the carpet we have now.  It's easy on the feet, and helps with road noise I would assume.  When we replace what we have now we're going to go with carpet again but a darker color to help hide the dirt a little.  If I stayed in a lot of places with gravel or dirt ( the desert) outside the door I would probably go with linoleum though.
That's my 2ยข!

Our choice would coincide with the recommendation we received from the remodel guru at FOT: carpet for the bedroom and high quality vinyl tile for the rest of the coach. He recommended carpet for the bedroom to remain compatible with the insulation materials in that area. He likes vinyl tile for the rest of the floor for a reasonable balance of care, comfort, utility, and appearance.

Of significant changes we might make to our coach, replacing the carpet with something more suitable for us is at the top of the list.

As Barry suggested, there have been significant discussions of the subject. The discussions include recommendations from people who have, "been there, done that."

We have been looking at wood flooring... the interlocking wood strips. They are about 5/16" thick and seem to be pretty easy to install and could either match or contrast with the existing interior walnut. We have not decided for sure what parts of the coach we would like to change... the galley area for sure and probably the saon, too. The bedroom and hallway would stay in carpet, though.

Any positive or negative thoughts on this?

We replaced all our carpet in the Salon and Bedroom with Cork flooring.  Here's a link to the product we used:  Natural Cork Flooring Collection - Tiles & Planks | USFloors

Some interesting reading on Cork products here:  Why Natural Cork Flooring | USFloors

We installed over a year ago and have been very happy.  Our coach has wood flooring in the galley area and tile in the bath.  We left those in place and just found a good transition piece for between the cork/wood and cork/tile.

Good luck, Dave Abel

My brother recently installed bamboo flooring in his Monaco.  It looks absolutely killer and the light color would, I think, work well with the dark casework in the Foretravel.

Carpet in the bedroom is still my preference. It gets almost no wear. Having a smooth surface in the rest of the coach is just a no brainer, as far as I am concerned. We have lived in coaches that had wood laminate, carpet, luxury vinyl and now porcelain tile.  My absolute favorite was the luxury vinyl that we installed in our '93 that replaced some very dark wood laminate.  It was non-skid, looked very rich and not like a typical vinyl product, was a dream to clean and withstood the vibration of going down the road and the storage temperatures of 45 degrees in the winter.  The next coach had some kind of tile in the kitchen and bath that was meant to be non-skid (I think) and carpet in the forward. I could scrub that tile like Cinderella, and it just was never clean. The carpet was a chore, really.  This '02 coach has porcelain tile. It is not slippery, the grout is totally intact and has withstood vibration very well. It is very easy to clean with a vacuum and damp mopping.  I am all about quick cleaning, and Mr. Wonderful is pretty forgetful about his feet, sometimes.  The photos I have seen of the bamboo and cork flooring look really wonderful. If I were going to do another project, I would certainly investigate that as a possibility.  My own experience leaves the luxury vinyl as my favorite with regards to appearance, ease of maintenance and feel on the feet.  Good luck with your research!

I always have to smile when I read about "Mr. Wonderful". :D

We haven't looked at luxury vinyl tile flooring. We may have to take a look. Bamboo has always been an option and it has some advantages as does cork flooring. It's good to hear real-world experience.
