10KW Kubota Question

Hello!

I'm reading the manual on the subject generator and find it says to change oil and fuel filter every 400 hrs with lo sulphur fuel.

Am I reading this right?

And no recommended hours to change oil?

Paul,

I have a PTS 8-10-12KW Operators Manual (MANPT 7-12) for engines Kubota D1105-EBG1 and Kubota V1505-EBG1 that shows an oil change requirement of every 100 hrs or every year.

Hope that helps.

Paul,

The oil change interval is buried on page 18 of the PT Kubota manual, they left it out of the table:

Change oil after the initial 50 hours of operation and every 200 hours thereafter.

I think mine said every 300 hours. I will have to pull my manual again. I usually do it at about 250 hours though.

An easy rule of thumb is to relate engine hours to miles.  If the diesel in the generator were powering a vehicle, at 60 MPH:

100 hours= equivalent of 6,000 miles

200 hours= equivalent of 12,000 miles

I sure would not go longer than that.

Remember, older generation engines (such as those in generators) with less precise fuel injection control required more frequent oil changes than modern OTR diesel engines.

Interesting take on it Brett.  I figure I am only really averaging 50 MPH over time but there is idle time too so 60 is pretty close. I usually change the oil on the coach at 15,000 miles so that would work out to about 300 hours.

Here is the information on the ISM 450 from Cummins.

    Miles
Kilometers   Months
Oil and Filter   15,000 mi 24,000 km   12
Fuel Filter   15,000 mi 24,000 km   12
Coolant Filter   15,000 mi24,000 km   12
Overhead Adjustment   120,000 mi 192,000 km
Coalescing Filter   150,000 mi240,000 km   24

And here is the link to it as well.

I enjoy taking the engine hours off the tach and dividing into the miles on the odometer - sure haven't averaged 60 MPH.

wonder what everyone comes up with.......

There were a few of the miles/tach times submitted at Foretravel speedometers. 38-45 mph overall seems to been an appropriate range for FT. Your results may vary! ;)

Dave, that tracks with the manual for Powertech too saying about 250 hours per change.  I thought I remembered reading 300 since out units are designed for heavy duty severe service.  If it was 43 mph that would work out to over 300 hours for 15K miles.  I know that the newer engines that are not electronic have a shorter oil change interval. Does that affect the generator though?
