New bed

My wife and I recently bit the bullet, and put a memory foam mattress in the coach. It also has the gel pad on top so you don't get too hot. Wish we had done this sooner! It makes all the difference in the world. Even though it's only a queen, you don't feel your partner at all. All movements are completely isolated. It was money WELL spent!

I want to see some photos of the old mattress being taken out.  One day I was just going to detail the engine, and thought, well just take the mattress off, and slide it to the galley.  Well I huffed and puffed, tried either side up first, and alone, and gave up on the 12" thick mattress we have.

We can try using more help in the process next time, or if all else fails, get out the sawsall.

If we replace the mattress, the new one will be thinner, it is a long way up or down and when the dog has fallen off, she makes a lot of noise in the night.

What good is a new mattress if you can't 'feel your partner'?  ::)

I removed the old mattress, and replaced with the new one by myself. I'm not saying I wasn't huffing and puffing a little when done. I pulled the old mattress forward until it cleared the night stand, and flipped it up on its side in the walk area closest the bathroom door. Then pulled it around the corner of the bed, and into the bathroom aisle. All down hill after that. Reverse process for new mattress.

We have a side isle bath, 8' coach, and I ran into furniture or ceiling in each try or direction.  Plus we have a very heavy mattress that is also at least 10" thick.  I am going to need a helper when we do ours.  The mid door might be the next challenge when we get that far.  But I never travel without a sawsall, and a huge assortment of blades.

OK, I see how we get them out, but who did you get to build the new one back in the bedroom.  Starting to think about a hammock, or a water bed, or air mattress.  Not!

Memory foam ones come all squished up in a box - just don't open the box before you get it positioned where you want the mattress to go.

I was there when four young lads averaging 200 lbs. each put that mattress in Dave's the coach. If you find one man that can remove it by himself, never argue with him about anything. It was a very high end innerspring mattress that is very thick and very stiff. The old original innerspring provided by Foretravel came our very easily. The mid entry door was no problem for either the old or the new mattress. The Memory Foam we have in our U300 was also relatively easy to get in the bedroom since it bends a whole lot more than an innerspring.

If you ever do want to remove it Dave, the SawsAll may be the easiest way.

By the way, with my back the memory foam is worth its weight in Gold and it reduces motion in the coach while you are sleeping. Our was under $700 and works great. You don't need to buy the high dollar name brands to get a good memory foam mattress. The generic name, by the way, is Viscolastic Polyurethane Foam. Ours is a combination of 8" high density latex foam bonded to 4" of high density viscoelastic foam. It's been great for over 4 years.

Just on our "someday list"  only had 75 nights in the last year on it.  Still sleeping fine, but tall, and I have to get the bathroom booster step for Dolly to get in and out of bed.  Clare makes the leap, up and down, and has only fallen off twice in the night.

You remember hot short, excuse me vertically challenged, Peggy is. She needed a step also, still does in our U300. I keep thinking about raising the floor next to the bed. It would make a great "hidey hole" for long gun storage.

If the old mattress is being discarded and does bend down the middle fold it real tight with three or four ratchet straps. Makes a nice tight bundle out of it before trying to remove it.

This one has an inner spring, there is no bending, just breaking I fear.  Thanks for the suggestion, and I have lots of motorcycle ratchet straps.

Even though it is 20 years old, the mattress in our coach seems to have barely ever been used.  It is very firm and we both think it is the best mattress we've ever slept on...and we have memory foam at home.  We joke that if we ever sell the coach...the mattress is coming out.

I didn't even try one night on old inner mattress that was in our coach when purchased. Just told the sales agent to "get that (expletive) thing out!" Had a Tempurpedic delivered the next day. Been sleeping on these beds for years. In fact the current mattress in my home we've had for 15yrs! Can't stand to sleep on anything else.
