Missing Piece for Bottom Trim

My rig has two fiberglass trim pieces that run the length of the coach just under the compartment doors (2 on the pax side and 3 on the driver's side). Are these things supposed to be plugged at either end? Mine aren't on either side on either end. Here's a couple of photos of the one below the fuel tank. Thanks.

Well, I'll throw in my two cents worth.

It doesn't look right!  Looks like some one cut a piece out.  I'll have to go out and look at mine tomorrow and see what it looks like.  But I'm sure that mine is closed off.  I would definately find something to close that off to keep the elements and critters out.

From picture trim3, it looks as if you are also missing the thick rubber gasketing that runs along the bottom and seals the bay door. It appears to be present in trim1.

Bob, photo 3 shows the area with the trim piece removed. The gasket is attached to the trim piece.

Phil, are yours open like Bob's and mine?

Looks a lot like our 1997 U295. There appear to be no end caps. It looks to me like there never were any end caps.

Well, mine are open, but not that large of a opening.  Guess I'd call the trim piece a "Rocker Panel".  Mine does not appear to be as large as the ones on the newer UniCoach.

Those bottom trim pieces, at least on our 99', are extruded aluminum. There were what I would call plugs made of some sort of caulking or potting compound. There were also similar plugs at the utility bay sewer hookup hatch opening. The angle iron runs the full length on either side of the coach with the exception of the sewer hatch opening. I think the openings should all be plugged because the angle iron is not painted and somewhat vulnerable to rust... wonder how I know that? ::)

We plugged the openings with silicone. Our silicone of choice for many years is GE II Clear.
