Spring Lift on Outside Access Doors

Any tricks to getting the spring lift rods compressed enough to reinstall on exterior access doors?

Open the door enough that the spring end can just snap on.

Well, the laugh's on me;  I just happen to have 4 of those clamps!  Never gave 'em a thought till you mentioned them...

another way to do it was shown to me by Rance (ex Extreme) he used one of the strap clamps that are good for holding down things onto a trailer or roof. Just put the air spring inside it and ratchet away till it compresses to the right size. Worked perfect on the ones i did on the basement door I repaired there.Almost no chance of it jumping out either while compressing.
