Windsheild gasket replacement

I just want to share this with you folks. When we purchased our 1990 G.V. In May of 2011, It had a broken drivers side windshield. The gasket looked rough so I purchased a new one from FT. A local glass shop here in Albuquerque that has been in business since the 50's and does large trucks, M.H. & buses. They advised me not to change the gasket that nothing would fit back in right and it would be a mess. Well they glued down the glass to the old gasket, and for a year and 4000 miles I have dealt with the glass pulling away from the center gasket. I asked this forum for advise in which I got, thank you. We found the glass should floats in the gasket and should not be glued down. Well after 2 more glass shops here in town told me it was the cab sagging that was causing the separation and declined to do the work, I decided to do it myself.I have done window work in the pasted. I put 2 weight jacks in by the front seats, enlisted my wife's help and spent 10 hours on a Saturday. I removed the weight jacks before we started the re install, nothing moved, nothing sagged. everything went back in like a glove, side windows and all. I sealed the gasket to the cab, not the glass. leak tested with garden hose, all water tight. We went for a short get away this past  weekend about 150 miles and no shifting or separation.

Thanks for all your advise and reading this, Mitch & Pam Sayer

MItch,
can you please tell me the "what and why" about these weight jacks.... I too am having the same troubles with my driver side window......  Did you use urethane to bond the glass to the gasket and gasket to the coach? That was yesterday's recommendation from James at FT
Fiberglass bonding failure
Thanks,
Steve

I have no answer for the windshield, but that looked like a possible issue to me on the GV series, why I would not consider one, not even the latest 2003 series, just scares me.  Feel the U320 is as much as I am willing to risk at $1K each.

Hi Steve, I used butyl caulking purchased at the local NAPA paint store. Urethane I am told is used on a non gasket type applications, I did use urethane to bond the front side windows gaskets to the windshield gasket, since they are cut to fit and not part of the windsheild gasket. I learned from this forum that the windshield is only sealed to the body and " floats" in the gasket so when the cab does twist or flex the windshield
can move with it, and when we remove the passenger side original windshield we confirmed it by finding sealent caulking on  the cab only, not the windshield. Sealing is done before the center spreading bead is installed, the caulking does squeeze out at a bit in places, but lots  of paper towels and a little WD-40 and it cleans right up.
The weight jacks I used were to hold up the cab just in case the everyone was right telling me that the cab would sag when the glass was removed. Being in the plumbing business I had some fancy ones used for ditch shoring.  I will take some pictures of them  tomorrow and post , it will answer a lot. You could use  (2) 2x4's a 1/2'' short and make up the diffrents with wooden  door shims.

Good morning, please see pictures attached of winshield moulding Install. The copper tubing bead install tool I made is 1/2'' O.D. X 16'' long. The store bought ones look like a screw driver with a V-slot on the end. I hope these pictures help?
