AV Connections/troubleshooting:

We upgraded our front television to a 32" Sony flat-panel. Noted, thou connected the same as the old CRT, (RF) we are no longer able to receive cable channels when available. Have spent quite a bit of time trouble-shooting; connected the cable directly to RF In on the new Sony and had good reception. Connected in the utility bay however, "nada". Again, none of the RF cables were disconnected from the AudioVox AVCC-100 box and the new Sony is connected to the AudioVox box exactly as it was with the older CRT TV. Curious if those with AV savy have any suggestions? (I've been trying to trouble-shoot using a DVD deck with RF-Out to provide a signal, as we have no cable where we are.)

I am sure you are aware of this but I will state the obvious anyway, because that is what is often overlooked :D First question is, does the TV have an analog tuner? If so, is the input set for analog cable, and finally what channel do you have the TV set to? Many DVD's and VCR's, as well as other devices with RF output have a swith on the back that allows you to select either channel 3 or 4 for the output. Sometimes this is in a menu screen inside the unit (which doesn't help when you can't see the output!)... anyway, if you were tuning the TV to analog cable channel 3 and the device was inadvertantly set to 4, you would get nada.

Thanks Don! - I appreciate the feed-back! The new Sony is, of course "digital" and I've seen no reference in the manual, set-up screen(s) or the back of the TV to "analog" options, however I'll check again. When I connect the RF cable (co-ax) directly from a cable TV source, (or my DVD deck) to the TV RF-In I get good reception. I actually wasn't sure I would get anything with the DVD deck, as it is obviously not cable-TV, and I was not sure the channel-scan would find it. Didn't need to select channel 3 or 4 for the output, either. (I have, however, verified the DVD deck is set to Channel 3, and that channel is set on the TV.) However, when the same signal source is routed through the co-ax/RF connection in/from the utility-bay, either through the AudioVox AVCC-100 box or directly to the RF-In on the TV, "nothing". The obvious suspicion would be "that co-ax/RF cable from the back of the coach to the front cabinet is bad", but (again) it was working with the old CRT TV and was essentially un-disturbed during the upgrade. Not really sure of any other way to verify integrity in that co-ax run (or the AudioVox distribution box) ... other than using the DVD deck to provide a signal. Maybe disconnect everything and run 12v through the co-ax, or rig an Ohm test of that co-ax? I did initially suspect the analog to digital change might be the culprit, but (again) the TV is working when hooked directly to the DVD deck (and a cable signal at the last RV park we were in) via RF-In. It would seem that leaves either the co-ax or AudioVox box as possible bad-actors.

For what it's worth to anyone else that may have a problem getting cable-TV "in"; the RF cable that runs from the utility-bay (on our '98 U320 in any-case) goes to the DVR (Direct TV DVR for us) "Cable-In" and then to the AudioVox control-box, "Aux-In". The co-ax cable-end at the DVR was loose. Re-swedged and all is good. Love it when that happens!

Easy check of the coax: short out one end of the coax and read the resistance with a volt-ohm-meter. It should read close to zero; remove the short and read again; it should read near infinity.

Chad, is your switch box, I guess that's your audio-Vox, analog only? Due you need a digital switch box. Does your satellite picture come thru the switch box?

If it (the cable) worked before and not now take a look at the copper core on the co-ax. It might have been accidently bent and in now not making contact.
I had a neighbor in Potters Creek CG last winter that had gone three years without a signal from local over the air stations--just because the wire was bent and he never noticed!
