stairs sliding cover

Thinking of checking out the cylinder etc for the floor over entry steps, got me scratching my head "how do you get access to it". Anyone ever had to work on it?

Hey John,

I changed mine last year. At first glance it looked dam near impossible. You will need to get the coach elevated/blocked. The rod end can be accessed by pulling the slide out. The fixed end/hoses are a chore to reach. You will need a lot of patience and flexability to remove/replace the cylinder.

by that comment I gather you mean you have to get in behind the gen set/ centre of coach under floor. Does the slide pull out enough to get to shaft end?

The cylinder has to be removed from beneath the coach after disconnecting the rod from the slide. I had to disconnect the air hoses from the solenoid valve and remove the entire assembly, as there was no way to remove the hoses at the cylinder while in position.

I would call MOT, yak with Keith or Weaver on the easy way to handle it.  I never use mine, it worked every time I tired it, hope it does not rust up.

mine works fine all the time it is just that I like to take things apart and there is no way I can see to check the possibilty of air leaks/bad seals without taking it out. I do have a leakdown problem that I am slowly fixing and this one is on my to do list. Problem is due to my bad back, getting into awkward places is not like it used to be.

I discovered I had a bad cylinder when I heard air leaking from the exhaust port on the solenoid in the retracted position. Once I had the cylinder out I pressured it up and found that the piston seal was bad.

Bob, so my question still is ,do you have to get under/behind the genset to get at the cylinder mounting. I guess it looks like it
