134a oil

My converted system leaks down. When I recharge it do I need to add the oil they sell right next to it?  How much to put in?

Dwayne, the short answer is no you do not need to add additional oil when simply topping up the 134a charge.

You might want to add some dye so that you can see where it is leaking....AC right?  With they dye one can see leaks with a black light.  I have not done it, but that is what I am told.  Also, they replaced the valve cores where the Freon attaches when they recharged our dash AC system.... they were leaking.  They look like valve stems on tires.  Cheap.  So far we have had good luck.  Have driving about 15 days in 90 plus weather since having the system recharged and it is still blowing cold.

I have added oil in the past for no good reason.  Recently replaced the filter dryer when the system was empty.  The old filter dryer was almost full of oil when it should have been only a tiny amount.  No reason to add oil unless you know you have lost oil.  Most of the oil will stay in the compressor, but a little bit circulates around the system.  Too much oil causes problems, same as not enough.
