Fuel Sender

I am now having problems with the fuel gauge reading.  (Said tank was 7/8 ths full after 400 plus miles of driving.)  Filled tank and gauge reads a little above full.  Have not previously had any fuel gauge concerns.

Barry had a previous post in 2011 about cutting a hole in the fiber glass where the sensor is located.  The pictures appear to be in the propane compartment and not the house battery compartment.  Can any one confirm that for a 36' 2000 U320?

Also, I assume the best troubleshooting approach would be to check the connections on the dash gauge, then check sender adjustments and finally, if necessary get a new sender unit from FOT.  Any other suggestions?

On my 2000 36 foot U320 it was on the drivers side. It was attached to the stick and if you need a new one it is suppose to come calibrated already if it is the same length.

Not sure about your rig but pull sender out if easy to do and use a carburetor cleaner/choke spray on the moving parts. Some senders require removing a protective sleeve to get to the moving parts. Algae on the sender can cause bad readings.

You can stick the tank and translate to gauge readings after repairing/fixing.

My 36' 2000 has a slide.  It appears that it will much more difficult to get to the sender if it is on the driver's side rather than on the pasenger side.  Any info available about exactly where and how to get to the sender?

Mike,
The '98's fuel tank sender was on the curb side, adjacent to the filler neck, out in the open.
The '03's sender is behind the fiberglass vapor barrier (to keep propane fumes out of the battery compartment), adjacent to the filler nozzle, not as easily accessible unless one makes Barry's modification, (which I think is street side).
I don't know when the design relocation was made but I would guess in model year 2000, when slides started.  If your's isn't readily visible on the curb side, that pretty well sets your location as street side.  We need Barry (or other) to chime in and tell us where Barry's pictures were taken.  Is the '03 Centroid sender near the curb or street side fill nozzle?

You should have a Centroid brand sender and there are two distinct generations.  Neither have moving parts, just concentric tubes.  The older analog sender is "potentiometer" adjustable and often displays your symptoms when the "pot", wires, terminals or terminations become slightly oxidized.  The newer digital generation came much later, 2008 or 2009, maybe?  It isn't nearly as susceptible to oxidation idiosyncrasies.

I purchased one of the newer generation digital Centroids a couple of years ago, but made one last attempt at calibrating my old style analog sender after cleaning terminals and connections thoroughly and spraying with Corrosion-X.  It's still doing fine since that calibration.  So I'm still carrying the digital sender as a spare.  The calibration procedure for the digital sender is referenced in the below thread and is also contained in Barry Beam's materials.

The various comments and files contained within the following thread (Search "fuel gauge accuracy") contain what you need, I believe.
Fuel gauge accuracy?

FWIW,

I did not have a slide on my 2000.  You can still take off the cover then on the passenger side and see if you can see it.

DUH!!
Looking at Barry's pictures again, this morning, it says right in Barry's picture caption "Fuel Sensor - Driver's Side"

Fuel gauge accuracy?

Mike,
I think that you have to relieve that fiberglass panel enough on the driver's side to determine if that is where your sender is located.
