Safe T Alert

Good evening, I have a Safe T Alert carbon monoxide / gas alarm, model # 70-742 That has 12 volts on the ground wire with the positive wire energized. Anyone ever run into this?

Thanks, Mitch Sayer

This sounds like the normal way of life for electrical circuits where only the +12 connection is wired. Connecting the ground wire to ground should make it work, so long as it doesn't blow a fuse.

I would say that the alarm is like a switch where both legs can carry current.... just look at a light switch, same thing.

Good morning, I should have been a little clearer. The ground wire is heating up to the point that it is very warm almost hot to the touch. It acts like there is a load on it or a short. I hope to have time this weekend to dig deeper.

It sounds like the gas saftey shut off solenoid is bad. You should check at the tank and see if there is a solenoid valve in the line coming out of the tank. Many people have removed or disabled this valve.

Thanks for the tip Ron, I took the solenoid out of the loop and my back feed went away. I have 0 voltage on the ground.
