code 2216- retarder,speedo malfunction

I was returning home and the beep from the directional signal, the retarder, and the speedometer worked intermittently for about 3 miles and then after a few minutes it was working properly. The code 2216 came up after instructions by Mike Rogers and indicated a loose connection somewhere between the dash and the transmission. I would like to learn how to trace this down if possible. Please post your ideas.

We had a plug come loose from the Allison transmission that caused a failure with a description of "loss of speed sensor," or something similar. The transmission went into "limp" mode. My recollection is that we could travel up to about 25 mph in second gear.

The point of failure was easy to find when I crawled under the coach near the transmission. A wire with a plug on the end was hanging down and a nearby socket was open. Ice had built up on the wire and pulled it loose.

You might try raising the coach, putting in your safety blocks and chocks, then crawl under the transmission and inspect connections. "Exercise" all the electrical plugs you find on the transmission. Check them for corrosion and security. You might want to apply some dielectric grease to the pins.

This advice is from a shade tree mechanic who is pretty good at figuring out what might be causing problems. If I want something fixed properly, I try to find someone who really knows how to fix it.

Oh, Good Lord!!  I read the subject line on this thread and couldn't open it fast enough!!  But it turns out to be mechanical, and nothing like what I saw walking down the road in the campground we left on the Yakima River ... a VERY chunky fellow with a big inner tube proudly sporting a bathing suit that should never have left Europe.  Speedo ... and speedometer ... are two very different things!!!  Now ... back to the topic, gentlemen! Sorry for the interruption.

Carol, I saw the same thing minus the inner tube at a campground in Intercourse  PA.  The guy was walking around in a speedo and there was no pool, hot tub, river, stream or even puddle around.... It was scary.....
