SMI AF1 Brake Hose Replacement?

The brake hose (air - between the car and RV)  on my SMI AF1 brake came off somewhere today. Rough roads in Indiana!  :o  Has anyone replaced this hose with a hose with an air hose from a big box store?  I can make it home OK without the brake, but if I pass a Lowes or something I may stop in and try a standard type air hose IF I can match the connections...

You will be happier if you go back to SMI for the correct hose with the quick connectors, I have never seen the connector they use any other place.

Thanks.  I was afraid of that.  I do have a request in with SMI :)

Hmmm, that's wierd as mine is just a pneumatic tool type connector, and the previous owner had it all put on by SMI, and I just replaced the female part as it was full of muck and did not release properly, and used one out of my tool stock.
I did make a cover to stop water and crap getting in it when not in use and this works great. Buy a piece of hose with a size that just slides firmly over the connector and make it about 1/2" longer than the fitting. At one end fill it with silicone just to close the end. Let it set then just slide it over the fitting ~~~done.

Any common air hose quick disconnect fitting and plastic air brake hose will work just fine. That's what we have. Put normally closed female on motorhome and car end of hose

Hmmm. OK - I'll check that.  I do have an air compressor on board so when I stop I see if it fits.  SMI DID say that the connectors were propriety connections, but they may be just wanting my money :)

Interesting for sure, The one on my new SMI setup uses a very small compact type quick disconnets, Female on coach and Male on toad.  For sure you can retro fit any connector you like, I use many quick change couplers in my shop, some large ones for the 3/4" CP air wrench.
I have not seen the compact that SMI is using today.

I have the M&G system. uses standard quick disconnects.
I bought some rubber crutch tips to put over the female ends of the air connections (coach and hose) and over the 6-conductor electric connector to protect  then when/if I drop them in the mud. Use a cutoff sparkplug boot for ther male on the toad.

Our SMI came with little caps to put on the ends when they were not in use.  I try always to remember to put the one on the small male fitting on the front of the toad.  We did have some trouble with one of the female ends because of grit and dirt, causing it not to want to slide and lock on.  CorrosionX and a toothbrush cleaned it right up!!
