Broken Dometic refrigerator door handle

I got tired of paying more than $50 for the cheesy plastic door handle on my Dometic refrigerator. You had to lift the handle and then pull the door. If it was just a little stuck, it was very easy to break the plastic handle. My solution was to install a brass clothes hook (upside down) on the door, near the handle, which allowed most of the pressure of pulling the door to be carried by the hook. I never had to replace another handle. As you can see in the picture, your finger fits under the hook and all it takes is a light tug on the plastic handle to release the catch, and substantial pressure can be applied to the hook to open the door. This might be a solution, since replacement parts are getting more and more rare.
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of a cheap price is forgotten.
