Differential fluid change

Hi All:

I have a 1991 GV U300 40ft with DD 6V92TA with 128,000 miles. I would like to change the differential fluid - I'm pretty sure it has never been changed. How do you drain it - is there a drain plug? I know where the fill plug is - I have taken this out to check the level. I'm thinking I should drive it first to warm up the oil. I am considering going with synthetic, can I just drain the old oil and put this in? Lastly, I found out the quantity I need is 4.5 to 5 gallons, I'm thinking I will want some kind of pump to aid in the filling process. Any advice is appreciated, Thanks,

Yes you can use synthetic as a lot of us do. I use Amsoil in all areas-excellent. Run for 50 miles or so to heat it up and drain then you may be able to run a plastic tube from Diff up over the wheel and then a filler funnel in it to be above level etc. Make sure you get the right level plug as there could be 2 at different places. Once the oil is correctly in you will never have to touch it again (just check for leaks etc)

I changed the differential fluid on my 1996 U320 to AMS synthetic, it took about 4 gallons, and I just used a one inch tube over the rear tire and up the side of the coach to 5 feet high - slow but worked.

There have been several posts regarding diff oil changes. do a search and see if you can find them

I just pour from the gallon jugs into those cheap throwaway one pint plastic bottles (yes well dried out).  They are easy to maneuver under the coach and easy to squeeze all but the last ounce into the axle.  I used 6 of them to lessen trips in and out. Discarded when finished.

Me, I use a hand pump, they are about $5.00 local parts house, because I am too occupied to play the games that you retired guys play, I want to get it done.
The hand pump is a stroker type, not a crank type, we use them for many things like refilling the hydraulic tank too, very little mess. Use another for filling the antifreeze plastic tank.  There are many areas the holding even a quart bottle up to is slow, messy and aggravating.
I am not that smart, but I pay attention to our workers, they have some better ideas.
