Accordian pleated day/night shades

One of our accordion pleated day/night shades doesn't work  any longer. The strings that operate the shade has come apart. I looked at taking the whole shade out, but it appears the only way to remove it is by taking the whole valence apart. Does anyone know the trick to restring it or take it out?

my string on my blind broke.  I was at a loss on what to do.  I went to youtube and sure enough there were a couple of really good videos on what and how to do the repair/restringing.  With that in mind go there and I think you will be pleased.

Greg, if I remember correctly there are 3 robertson screws holding it in place. Look up to under valance and you will see. Undo them and it will come down. The restringing is actually quite simple to do but make sure you have the right size cord for it.
There is also a diagram online that you print out and place alongside your blinds while doing it . Makes it easy to check you have crossed cords the right way.

Good video and discussion. I, too -- was wondering how to re-string a couple of mine that are getting lazy and tilted. :)

Attached is info on how we used to restring shades before switching to MCD shades.
Shows what string we purchased and how the strings are positioned.

Probably have restrung all of our pleated shades, some more than once.

when you restring, be sure to check the eyelets for burring, or you'll be doing it again soon. Also, adjust tension so it is just enough to hold shades in position, but not so tight that they bind. I've restrung all ours at least once.

I did the restring thing a couple of times and then got my MCD's.  One of the best things I have done to the coach.  Now I push a button to raise/lower- works on the solar screen for day time and night shade for night.  I had mine done at MOT- very happy with it.

The worst part of restringing these D... blinds is getting them down.  On Mine I have to remove the side pieces ( Lambrekins ), then find and remove three screws that go vertically thru the header of the blind into the top of the window.  Its a two Man ( one DW ) job and putting the screws back into the same places is a PITA.
IO must have restrung a dozen of these over the years.  On on occasion we did not have the correct blind string and I used KITE string, its still in place and still working. :)

Thanks to everyone. The problem I'm having is trying to get the shades off! It appears I'm going to have to take the valence off to get at the clips or screws that hold the shade in place. Is that what you had to do?

Yes that is what we have to do on our 93 GV.

Greg, If the shades are screwed to the top of the window frame you can reach them with a long shank screwdriver.  Look Straight up between the shade and the valance. They are probably square head ( Robertson ) screws.

On mine there were the square headed screws at the top and sides of the lambrquins (upholstered trim). Take ur time as to not strip the wood that holds them (I stripped a couple). Really not hard to do, I think there were two screws on both sides and the top to hold the trim ( yours may have more?). I used one of those drivers that u can change to various tips which happened to have a square driver in the set.
