Shore Power

Well, I plugged the coach in when I got home and all was fine. Went down today to check it and the power was off. I checked the outlet and it was working and I can run the coach and get full power on the generator.  I am going to check and see if the surge guard was fried. I had a small power surge down in FL when I was there.  It burned out the power pole breaker. It is a surge guard not a progressive unit so there is no remote view. I will have to take the bed apart this week and see. Until then I put on an external battery charger to bring the house batteries up to snuff.

You may be able to take the cover off the Automatic Transfer Switch and check for voltage at the contactor without taking the bed apart.  When I had an over voltage incident my system shut down thanks to the progressive system but the line-in contactor was fried. 

Warning.  Mains voltage will be present on some of the terminals.  Shut down inverter and generator and disable autostart on generator.  Only have the shore power connected.  If you don't know what you are doing - don't.

Thanks. I think i have to take the bed apart. My year was the first bed slide and it does not lift.  I thought I would shut off the inverterand auto start. Ten plug it in and test to see if I have power at the surge guard. If I do then check the line out on the SG.  That would isolate it to the transfer switch or prior to the surge guard.

Well, I had power into the surge guard but not out.  That means that the power is not getting to the transfer switch.  So I will have to replace it.  I did have it engage when I was testing it so I will leave it over night and see if it works if not then I will change it out tomorrow.  I will be off work as we are expecting a blizzard  12-22 inches.

John,

Since all was well when you first plugged in, are there any indications (lights, etc.) on the surge protector itself to indicate if it "thinks" there's a fault?  I know you said you checked the 50 amp outlet itself, but could it be an issue with a connection somewhere between the shoreline plug and the surge protector?  I know we had to replace our original molded shoreline plug and I believe I recall Dave M had to replace his due to a bad neutral a year or so ago.

I had a surge in FL. It was bad enough that they had to fix the pole breaker.  I had power on the input side of the surge guard so it was coming in. Multimeters showed it 122 and 123 on each leg. THey surge protector was showing only one leg of power though. I am going to see if it will hold overnight. If it does then I will leave it in but I doubt it and I think I will cut myself up to get it all out.

We also had to replace our original (2003) molded shoreline plug last summer while at MCD for shades due to a bad neutral.
