Do I need the compass?

Right now the compass always points North, no matter which way the coach is pointed. We always use a gps when traveling. Don't see the need for a separate compass.

Would like to remove the compass cable where it penetrates the roof. It's in the way of a repair I'm doing where the satellite cable penetrates the roof.

If you wanted to keep it.
You can removed the dome cap on the roof where the mechanism is and you might find it has become unfastened.  Park the coach facing North and then adjust the mechanism until it is reading accurately. Refastened with silicone and refastened the dome cap.

Could my compass connection under the dome just be loose?  When parked it keeps randomly changing (N, NW, SE, E...) every 2-3 seconds.  Or is that another issue?

I use my cell phone as a compass because I want to park facing North so the passenger side is always on the east side and we can sit in the shade in the evening and not deal with the western setting sun. :)  Unless it's cold...
