OK - I give up again - Bose amp. location?

I can not find the Bose amp.  It is either hidden or missing.  Front tube TV is out and I see 3 sets of wires.  One set: red and white, another set is red, white and yellow and the third is an "s -type".  These av cables go left of the TV cabinet and appear to come out in the left side cabinet above the driver's seat where the sat and direct TV box is located.  I presume the amp should be in that cabinet. The front cabinet to the right of the TV and above the entry steps has a VCR, switching box and another switch marked "DHS Home Theater System".  All of the Cubes are in place and the SW appears to also be in place in the cabinet under the sink.  I see no wires from the cubes anywhere.  HELP.

Needless to say I have been very interested in the Bose replacement threads.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/input. ??? ???

Mine is in that cabinet above the driver seat. Maybe youse got yanked and replaced by that DHS home theater unit.  Does the subwoofer work?

If not moved (no reason it should be), the Bose 321 head unit should be/have been exactly where you state and should look something like this:

When ours had a DVD loader failure, we purchased a replacement through eBay.  The SW has a proprietary connector so if you want to continue to use it, the only option is an older 321 unit.

Thanks for the pic Michelle.  I had an acoustamas (SP) system at my stix and brix so I know about the SW and wiring.  Nothing but the Sat boxes in the cabinet.

If the 321 head was pulled out there should still be speaker wire ends somewhere though.  I don't see them either.

Thoughts?

After some research I found the DHS system and info here: (don't know how to turn address into active link)
Info on the DHS Mobile Theater System - iRV2 Forums

Sounds like it was a pretty good unit in it's day that interfaces with the Bose Cubes and is installed in a wall or covered opening somewhere.

Guess I will call James T @ FT again tomorrow and try to get more info.  I am sure he is getting tired of my calls.

Good Morning folks:

First let me say up front I am not a fan of Bose. When putting 2 kids through college I worked a second job at Circuit City, my department was home audio. I actually hated to sell Bose and did so if I could not convince the customer there is a lot better equipment out there. Their profit margins are very high and would pay me nicely.

Bose does not use the Dolby Labs. digital surround technology, they use their own that sounds a lot like it. Also that subwoofer you are talking about is not a SW, it is the base speaker for the small cubes, hence the special connectors. That box is where all the crossover networking is preformed. Secondly that box does not get low enough in frequency to  put out the very low frequency of a SW, 18 to 150 Hz. at this range you feel more than you hear.

I do not have a Bose system in our U270, if we did I think I would take it out an replace it with a Polk Audio system and a real surround receiver.

Yes the Bose systems do sound good and if you don't mind paying high prices for old technology, OK. Me personally no thanks. When you ask a Bose rep what the frequency response is they will say "you don't need frequency response you just need good sound." To be classified as a High Fidelity speaker it must produce 20 to 20,000 Hz, the Bose systems do not reach either end of that spectrum.

The above is IMHO. Thanks for listining.

Norm

@Norm The saying I aways heard was "No highs no lows? You got Bose!".

Hi Larry-
I guess I get some sleep but when I wake up I am ready to go.  Especially with our new ol' girl.  So much to do.

I liked our home Bose system but will probably try to replace with a wireless surround sound system.  It's true about the Bose frequency response answers.  I asked the same questions when we bought ours.  I did like the sound and it worked fine for us for years.  However, I had another surround sound system on our sitting room that did "feel" the bass range and worked well too.

The forum does that for you "automagically" :D

I think the primary challenge for those of us with the Bose is that the coach came from the factory all set up that way (most often a 321 system).  Once you start looking at replacement, and trying to get wiring over to where the Acoustimass module sits (usually under the kitchen sink, opposite side of the coach from the audio head), assuming you'd replace it with a SW the project gets a lot bigger than originally planned (and desired ;)  ).

Speakers are a bit strange. When we had a stick and brick, I installed a "hi-fi" system, one piece at a time. The last component was the speakers. I could not afford the speakers that I wanted, Klipsch, so I purchased a cheap set of speakers as a temporary measure. The cabinets had a total of six or eight speakers each, I forget now but they had sixteen inch woofers. The sound was terrible and both cabinets vibrated with any volume. I tore into the cabinet and found that the crossover network consisted of a couple capacitors and I think a coil and a resistor. I ordered a couple crossover networks that would split and isolate the frequencies going to the different speakers, stuffed the cabinet with sound insulation and added a couple stiffeners. When I finished the sound coming out of those speakers was amazing, you could actually feel the base. A bit later I had the funds to buy the Klipsch speakers. I took one of my CD's with me and went to listen to the Klipsch speakers. To my ears my speakers were way better, the Klipsch seem to emphasize the highs and I did not like them. Saved a bunch of money and had great sound. Since then I have always believed that speaker systems are only as good as the sound that you like. IMOHO

Well I found a solution and I'm sticking to it.  We purchased and installed a new Samsung slim 40" TV and hung it on the front TV cabinet.  The TV is only 18#+/- and with the slim mounting bracket maybe 20#.  I purchased some 1 x 2" poplar, wood glue , screws and reinforced the cabinet innards as seen on Barry's website. (Only his support system was metal tubing.)  Mounted the bracket with 4 - 3/8" lag bolts into the face frame of the cabinet with the poplar behind it for additional anchoring.  We now have a 40" TV where the monster tube was and it looks good.  For the surround sound I bypassed the entire DHS and bought a Samsung sound bar with a wireless SW that is also blue tooth.  Sounds good to my old ears and the DW says it's OK too.  I will mount the sound bar on the bottom of the TV cabinet as it is only 2" high so it will hang below the cabinet two inches.  We are hooking up Apple TV so we can use our lap top to play Cd's and DVDs.  We will tackle the satelite interface if and when we decide that we want it.  Bought the Samsung TV at Best buy for $600.00 (on sale - last years model) and purchased a 4 year replacement/repair warranty for $125.00  The Samsung Sound bar was $329.00 and the mounting bracket was $120.00.  So for $1300.00 we have our TV and sound system that works great for us.  Oh the materials at the Home Depot was $15.00.

I have been struggling with this decision for months and have felt the pain of all of you that have gone before me to duplicate/improve upon the system that was originally installed in our coaches.  I will pull out the SW in the kitchen cabinet and use it for storage for something??????

We will take the $$$ that we are not spending on the front TV mod and buy some fuel, food and.......

Again I thank you all for your posts that brought us to this point. :) :) :) :)

all good and congratulations! Simple is a good thing, and getting it done always makes me wonder why I procrastinated so long????

As for extended warranties, Costco is a great place to buy TV's, they double the manufacturer warranty from one year to two, and then sell the most cost effective extended warranty I have ever seen( I never buy them, but with the urging of consumer reports, I have on my Costco TV's.

Plus they have a great technical support line that is free, and VERY liberal return policies.

FWIW, and no, I don't own any Costco stock!

Crazy about the older Bose gear, in my upper front, it has been removed, only have the TV VCR/DVD player, and the speakers under the bed are disconnected from the AC outlets, they were making noise, so zap, disconnected., two less drains on the battery system.

If anyone has a possibly working Bose 321 series I head unit (the part with the DVD player), I could make use of it. Mine has a broken DVD/CD player and occasional fits of silence.

Thanks.

Scott,Under the bed, there is a speaker on each side with the opening outward, have not removed them yet as have no need for a large hole on each side of the bed frame/box.  Guess they are part of the Bose setup.  Doesn't matter, I have zero need for a pair of boom box's under my bed, as I also have no need for the boom box in junk cars that love to rattle what ever I am driving, sort of anti boom box.
I have other ways of humoring myself.

We have speakers on each side of the pedestal for the bed. They serve the little radio in one of the bedside cabinets. The system is separate from the A/V equipment at the front of the coach.

Our system is the samd as JD's. By the way, My audiologist says that Bose is for old people who have lost the ability to hear highs and lows. I'm just about 69 and 38 years in machine shops leaves me not worrying about the highs and lows so much.

Wow!!  Radio in bedside cabinet,  Has to be a whole lot different than my 01, 320,  no radio other than the box up front.  So maybe I just need more direction on the said radio in the cabinet in bedside ?  Where ?

Passenger side, corner cabinet above the bedside counter top, bottom shelf. In our coach, it is a Sony dash radio. The antenna is on one of those spring mounts next to the top of the ladder. It sits there waiting to poke anyone who ventures on to the roof via the rear ladder.

Guess I have been robbed, no sign of any radio in the rear of coach, only the TV, Alarm Clock and many lights, NO RADIO, but do have large speakers under the foot of the bed that are now disconnected from their 120 Volt plug as they wee making scratching noise.  Guess I assumed they were for the Bose up front, clearly I am incorrect, so why the only guess, I've robbed :o

Re: OK - I give up again - Bose amp. location?

Dave,  I don't think you were robbed.  On my coach the Bose speakers under the bed are for the Bose unit up front and are controlled by the remote for zone 2.  If you had pressed the power button on that remote the noise would probably have gone away because it was just static from selecting an input with no signal.  With that unit you can listen to one audio source in the front and a different one in the bedroom.  Each zone has its own remote.
