Kitchen Sink Faucet

We have a faucet that is leaking a lot.  If I push the handle backward the water flows out of everything.  Same thing if I push it right or left).  I pulled out that little plastic gizmo on the front of the sort of handle, and can see only a dark hole (actually I think there's some sort of screw back in there - very far back and looks hard to reach).
Okay, so we need a new appliance there.  Has anyone removed the faucet (it looks like a Moen (spelling?) at least in our stick house we had one that looked very much like this one.....
We need to get this old one out and replace it with something that works.
I realize this is close to 15 years old, so it is probably time.  We live in this year round, so the  appliances (and everything else) get plenty of wear.
If anyone has replaced their kitchen faucet, with what did you replace it?  Our rig is a 1999 version U320, 40'er.  Don't know if that means anything or not, but just in case...
Oh, if you've replaced your faucet do you  have any suggestions, directions or prayers that we don't end up with an ungodly mess.....
Many thanks for your help.

I replaced mine with an american standard from home depot. the
price was around $120.00.  you can view it on my profile page.
mine coach is a 1998 and the nut on the old faucet was seized up.
I went to harbour freight and bought a $7.00 air operated side
cutter.  with that tool I just reached up behind the sink and cut off
the the old faucet under the counter.  the new faucet came with
the appropriate fittings. I think the operation took around one half
hour.  just make sure the new faucet has the right size escutcheon.

Got from Lowes a kitchen faucet made by Delta.  Not hard to do if you are flexible to get under the sink.  The main thing is to made leak proof connection of the braided water lines from the new faucet to the coach's supply lines.  We found a sharkbite connection easy to use and no leaks.

Kathleen,

One of the first things I fixed when we bought our coach was the kitchen faucet. I replaced the ball/o-rings and have not had any issues in 4-1/2 years. Sounds like the cap over the ball is loose. If you have the same faucet you need to remove the blue/red plug and loosen the set screw. Remove the handle and tighten the cap. The tighter the cap, the stiffer the handle will be. If that does not fix the problem remove the cap and pull out the ball and o-rings. Parts are available at Home Depot and Lowes.

Moen has lifetime support. They will give you new inside parts free. No plumbing pipe changes needed to swap guts of existing faucet.
Moen's Contact / Help Information and Phone Number

But this could be chance to update your faucet if you want to tackle difficult to reach plumbing fittings.

Kathleen,

We replaced ours with a Grohe Ladylux Plus last year (pricey, but I absolutely love the faucet).  We had a height constraint (cabinet) that restricted our choices to 13" or less.

There are some great ideas in the Renovations board, along with some helpful discussion on the installation process.  Here are a couple of threads to get you started:

Kathleen,

We replaced ours a few months ago with a Grohe clone. Naturally, made in China but well built, works great and $74 delivered. Here is the previous post with photos, source and a DIY paragraph.

Finally fixed our leaking faucet last year.  Less than $2 parts from Lowes.  Less than half an hour, that included walking from parking lot to store and back in ABQ.

Wow!  Great ideas and suggestions.  Many thanks!  This afternoon Mr Wonderful took the thing apart - cleaned a lot of "stuff" out of it and reassembled it.  (It is still leaking but not as much.)  He is going to get "some parts" and work on it some more next week.  He'd rather not replace the faucet (but I would) - so we will have to see if his "parts" idea works.  If it does, fine.  If it does not, I have a whole list of GREAT ideas from this list (I printed them all out) that I will hand over to him and sit and pout until he gets us a new one. :)  Many thanks for all the responses and for the valuable ideas.  You folks are fantastic!

Dear Bob and Faith - Paul did the first part of that, and feels he can "fix" it by getting a few new parts.

You'all won't be surprised to know that Kathleen asked me to look up the word "pout" to see if there was a better word.

I read all of synonyms the thesaurus had to her. As you can see below she stayed with 'pout'

Of course, she did not tell me what she was writing. Sometimes she just toys with me like a cat with a mouse...

She recently had a problem with her iMac. I said, "What's wrong with your computer, sweetheart?"

She replied, "Think of it as OUR computer..."

I'm still laughing at that one...can I pick 'em or what?

best, paul

Kent,

You're not the only one who misses Kathleen.

We went to the 50th anniversary of Kathleen's high school graduation.

A guy came up to me, shook my hand, and said "You're a lucky man" I said, "You're right!"

Who was he?

He was a guy Kathleen had been engaged to. TWICE. More than 50 years earlier. Years before I met her.

Here he was, a grandfather, with the fire still burning bright!

When Kathleen lights a fire it doesn't go out!

best, paul

Kathleen ... if your Mr Wonderful cannot seem to reconcile himself to replacing the faucet, just call a repair guy after you make a visit to a local Lowes or Home Depot.  I LOVE my high rise faucet ... had the same one in my home in PA and insisted that I wanted it in the coach.  You do need to consider the rate of flow, to make sure that it is compatible with your onboard water pump.  We had some problems and there was an annoying "pulse" every time I tried to use the water.  They figured it out in Nac.  I can use my faucet as a "pot filler" for pans on the stove because the reach is so good ... a great benefit of the high rise faucets.  It is a Moen, and similar to the look of the ones folks posted.  Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for the info Carol - we are looking at replacing some parts, but if that doesn't work, Mr W agreed that we would replace it --- many thanks!
