AC units may have a fan run capacitor, a compressor start capacitor and a motor run capacitor. A lot of times the capacitors will be two in one style, combining two caps in one case. They can be replaced the same way or with individual capacitors for each function but it may take a jumper or 2 to do it. When you buy them they need to physically fit, have the same MFD rating, and the voltage rating needs to be at least as high as on the original parts. Higher voltage rating is fine and may result in more durability. They are available in a variety of shapes and dimensions.
If the compressor has been laboring during cranking, or you run an ac and other items on a 20 amp service you might want to install a hard start kit. That provides an extra kick for the compressor, making it easier and faster to starr while reducing start current. Dometic sells a kit for this called an "easy start" but you can get a kick start kit at any ac supply place, grainger or possibly Amazon which is where I've bought numerous capacitors lately. The kick start kit needs to be approximately matched to your compressor hp or amperage.
