Tail light and Indicator light wiring

Can anyone help me, I have an 85 Grandvilla 36ORED and have imported it to Australia. We can't have flashing red lights on the rear and i can't work out how to stop them. I need to know how the indicators and stop lights are wired together. Anything will help. Thanks

Ian, The only flashing red on the rear should be the turn signals.  These are operated by a flasher that is probably located with the rest of the circuit breakers in the front of the coach.  I suspect that you can remove the flasher and wire around it. Flasher should be shown on your wiring diagram.

Have you looked at the bulbs to see how the flashing works?  I'm not familiar with the Grandvilla but typically the flashing turn signal works by flashing the same bulb filament as the brake lights.  So, the actual bulb for turn signals is also the brake light bulb.  Like Gary says you can remove the flasher and wire around it but what are you going to use for turn signals?  Or is the problem that the turn signals can't have a red lens?

Ian, Why don't you drop a PM to MR B2 a member of this group, his is in OZ ( Australia ? ) and he imported it also.

Gary, MR B2 has the international lights, same as our '89. Sounds like Ian has pre-international lights, with the double filament 1157 bulb handling the brake and turn, along with the running light. If so, he will have to add separate amber lights and rewire for the turn signals all the way from the dash. How, I am not quite sure as I never had to do it. Maybe rewiring the brakes independently and using the existing circuit for the turns?

There is a way to wire combination (all red) tow vehicle lights to separate (amber & red) trailer lights.

Now, if you were to install the converter just before the lights at the back of the coach and wire the brake output to the existing lights and connect the turn outputs to new amber lights that should work.  You might need a diode to prevent back feeding the front turns but I don't think so.

Saves running wiring all the way from the front.  Worth a call to etrailer in the US at 800-298-8924 or email them.  Here is their website: Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924 or call a good trailer place in Oz.

If that's not clear PM me.

Gentlemen ? thank you for all the information, i am still trying to get my head around it. I have called MR B2 and he has the later lights , so no help. I have run new flasher light wires from front to back but can't locate the wire to disconnect from the flasher can under the dash. I will keep trying and may rewire brake lights if it gets too hard.
I will keep checking in case you have any more ideas for me.

The wire from the brake light switch should be through the turn signal control on the steering column, and then to the lights at the back. It should be possible to connect that wire from the switch directly to the two wires that go to the back (bypassing the turn signal control). If you can't trace those wires out, then run a new wire from the brake light switch to the lights at the rear.

Yep, that's it tomorrow i will run a new wire from the brake switch to the back and bypass the flasher can all together.
