Coach Name

So how and what did you or did you name your coach? Ours is named Fred. Our Airstream was Ethyl and our dogs Desi & Lucy. It started with Desi spin off from Destin Fl. Where my in laws  lived. Then the seconded dog Lucy then Ethyl and Fred was the obvious. We find it convenient to refer to our motor home by name. I don't know if this is a past topic if it is point me to it and disregard.

About 25 years ago I named my bassboat "Hayfever", a takeoff from my name and that I REALLY enjoyed fishing. When we bought our U-280 10 years ago, my wife, who likes to name all of her motor vehicles, came up with "Hayfever Express", which most recognize as part of my Forum signature. We refer to it as the "Express".

It would be interesting to learn what percent of our Forum members have named their coaches.

Of course you all know Forrest and Henry. Now we've added Oscar Mike the Jeep Wrangler. Before that we had Julie Jamboree, the class C, Remus Rialta, the Winnebago class B.

The Behemoth 2.0.

Homer Simpson was shopping for an RV. He fell in love with the "Ultimate Behemoth" that had deep fryers in the galley AND in the basement. Of course Homer could not come close to buying the "Ultimate Behemoth," so he settled for something much more like the first MH I showed Marilyn. She would not even sit down in it and shuddered a bit just standing in it. Since we were on the PPL lot, we looked around and  bought "Behemoth 1.0," a 37' SOB DP. We used it to learn a bunch, have some fun, experience some terror, and find out why it was so much cheaper than Foretravels of the same size and model year. We upgraded to a U295 eight months later.

We now have Behemoth 2.0. When we get the new flooring next month, it will be Behemoth 2.1. We hope to add MCD shades and some adjustments to cabinets and valances that may upgrade to Behemoth 2.4.

When Dori & I first started camping we were in a Ford Escape with a Eureka tent and a Big Agnes sleeping bag. Big Agnes Inc. Steamboat Springs, CO We liked the name Big Agnes so when we upgraded to the U300 the name came along. When we did the FBP in 2011 we had Biscuit paint her name and build number on the side.

Our Grand Daughter has had the honor of naming all of our recent vehicles.  She has not decided upon a name for our coach yet but unofficially I refer to her as "Ol' Girl".

My wife named ours Matilda ... comes from:  "to waltz Matilda" is to travel with a swag, that is, with all one's belongings on one's back wrapped in a blanket or cloth.

I named my U300 "Marvin" -- as in the Looney Tunes character -- "Marvin the Martian" which has always been one of my favorites. My brother-in-law bought me the official mascot for a Christmas gift when he heard of my name choice.

And before hitting the road, I'm going to have a small Marvin sticker ( a little more friendly-looking version than pictured ) next to the door bell with a caption above it " Greetings, Earthlings".

But no, I'm not mounting a yellow broom comb on the center spotlight on the roof. I thought about it, though :-)

My wife took one look at this huge white bus the day I brought it home and said "Moby!" and it stuck like glue. No other choice after that, really. My previous rigs' name came about much more convelutedly...
Years ago a buddy and I used to homebrew beer. We made labels for the bottles, after much palaver over the name of our "establishment", wherein we invented this huge backstory of how a Mr. Tippe (him), a British expat con man/smuggler/raconteur met up with a Mr. Drague (me), a Belgian gunrunner/gentleman adventurer/upperclass troublemaker, and how these two came up with a brilliant business plan that involved establishing a brewery that delivered beer to places where it was desperately wanted but not allowed, by hot-air balloon. Since we are both balloon pilots, this made sense at the time.  In our line of work a tip-n-drag is what we do when we land in high wind, hence the names. We named the RV the "draguester", obviously, especially since its' 1/4 mile times are about as un-dragster as it gets.
Sorry for the ramble! :)

We had the chance 10 years ago to build a modest chalet style retirement home on a small lake in rural western Washington with an expansive view.  Wanted to name it, played around with word combinations for a long time, and stumbled on OUTLOOKINN.  Liked the way it worked to represent location, structure, function and our attitude about it.  Had a piece of wood engraved with the name, and hung it by the front door.

Our winter RV location, along the shore of Lake Havasu AZ, also had an expansive view.  We thought of our FT as our home when not home, and OUTLOOKINN expressed our attitude about it.  No brainer.  Had a smaller version of the sign made and displayed it from the front window wherever we parked overnight.  Liked that it could be read as out-lookin'.

But on a day-to-day basis, we simply called it The Bus.

Love everything about our bus.  It has enriched our lives, it has served us well, and it is capable of doing so for another couple of decades or longer.  Notice past tense?  Changes in Karen's life have required changes in how and where we live.  House has been sold, we have moved to Spokane, and The Bus is in storage pending some clarity about whether to keep or to sell.

When we first stepped up into our soon-to-be Foretravel GV, I said "I love this thing, I'm going to take him home and pet him and squeeze him and call him George". Those of you who might have watched a Bugs Bunny cartoon or 2 will remember this line from the Abominable snowman episode.
George has evolved into a techno beast with solar charging power system, blu-ray players, flat screens, 7.1 surround sound for tunes and video, all lighting is LED (including the former fluorescent tubes) and 3 Ham radios. Now, if I can just get a hydrogen power plant set up in him...

As my coach also has no decals we started using moby dick. Really is a great white whale. Like thinking of great minds?  I think so.  DW and I laugh every time we get into our coach as 25 years ago I was the ca. Foretravel sales manager.  We figured out we would end up with one but crazy how it worked out,  meant to be.  Thanks cm and ray and Marie.  And all of you faithfull.  See, I didn't lead any of my old customers wrong, did I?

We are so use to saying "going to the boat" or "the boat " that for now we know what we mean when we say it. RV, MH and camper have been used also. We have called it the Big White Whale, after seeing it parked in a lot with all the full body tan, brown type rigs, that could stick, till the 20 years of going to the boat wears off.

When we were building the RV garage, my wife would take pictures and such and put it on her blog.  She christened it "the Beast", so I guess that's ours.
