Generator start switch

My 10 kw generator is having starting issues again.  While depressing the start switch the generator cranks up great but the second that I release the start switch it shuts off.  I have found if I engage the start switch again immediately after it shuts off, the generator will continue running.  The generator runs great no problems with fuel lines, filters, etc.  I called generator manufacture and they had no idea because it is a 1977 model.  Is there a relay that I can check or any other issues to look for?

Terry,
If the check valve in the oil filter doesn't seal and the oil drains out of the filter when the engine is shut down it would cause a short delay while it fills before it can build up enough oil pressure to close the low oil pressure switch.
That could be why it works on the second start if the first refiled the filter.
