Magic Eye Remote TV & Sat Control

Since the installation of the new Samsung TV was lacking QC and neatness, the actual mounting was very fine, however the small front door to left of TV was not very neat and hiding the Eye for remote control, so figured it was time to dig into the cabinets, after removing a lot of old unused sat control box's, many feet of excess cable, connectors, power cords no longer having any use.  I removed the small door to left of TV, drilled a 31/64" hole, moved the Eye to the door, rewired and now it works as expected.  What a rats nest still in those cabinets, no clue for most of it.
Reinstall the bottom, rear and left panels, in doing so, I did find the loose screw that kept rolling around in the overhead "Amen" to that critter.

You had one of them too???  I mean the a lot of old unused sat control box's, many feet of excess cable, connectors, power cords no longer having any use.  When mine comes home from the shop, I have to clean up mine too.

You no longer need the eye. You can get a free rf receiver and remote from DirecTV. That's all they give out now. Remote works anywhere. I got one for my brother after he almost shelled out $250 to buy one. It will also be HD and recorder.

Dave, I believe if your receiver is HD it IS rf. Probably your remote is not. Or possibly the receiver is not programmed for rf.

The good news after removing about a bushel basket of excess cables and equipment, remounting 31/64" hole, the EYE in the small door left of TV, dressing in the cables, IT WORKS !
The eye is no longer behind the door and the door is now mounted square & true, small things mean a lot.  Guess somedays some folks have it too hard even while getting big money.

We have our DirecTV DVR connected to the wired house LAN and have several "apps" available for controlling it. The best one - or at least the one I like the best - is "DirecTV Lite" which I use on the Samsung Galaxy Tab II 7.1 where it's almost full-sized.

I don't use it all that often - mostly when Hailey (12) is here and has secretly stolen the regular remote in order to ensure HER selection is on the tv. I can foil her with the Tab. Which inevitably results in war. :D
